in a world overrun by the walking dead, and the population of the living dwindling, any reasonable survivor must agree that the likeliness of killing off each and every one of the infected is nearly impossible.this is where my proposition comes in-i have been studying the work of a russian scientist by the name of Ivan Pavlov, perhaps you've heard of him?He is most noted for his work of the nervous system and its response to stimuli.he had trained dogs to respond to certian stimuli, such as a bell.when they heard the bell, they knew food was coming,so their mouths would being to water. i believe the same principal can be applied to the 'undead'. though they are essentially dead, they still respond to basic stimuli as you and i [and even Pavlov's Dogs. . .] would...if we can train them, domesticate them, to ignor that stimuli that causes them to attack, with the purpose to feed, [seeing as they have no real need for sustenence. . .] we can therefore eliminate the threat that they cause, thus making it considerably easier to dispose of them safely.

i have plenty of support here to help with my cause.i can see how not everyone would agree with a certian idea.and you're the only one who seems to keep going back the 'pet' issue.i do believe i've stated rather clearly that im not trying to 'tame' these things and keep them as 'pets' -.- im simply considering an alternative means for survival.the thing that makes us human is our ability to problem-solve. as i've said before, brute force is not the only answer here! we need to take logical steps towards a long-term solution.hopefully,if the time ever comes, people wont be as simpleminded and dense to let this sort of thing happen, and there will be no need for my studies, because there will only be a handful of the walking dead in the first place.and a cure, you say?who's being unrealistic here?these things will have been decaying for lord knows how long.the only 'cure' here that i can think of is a bullet to the brain -.- i realize that theyll never be entirely 'human' again.thats not what im trying to do.im not trying to reverse the process.any attempt would be simply illogical.i think at this point,im begining to sound like a broken record.if you've bothered to even skim through any of these posts on this discussion, than i shouldnt even have to say any more on this matter. and these things ARENT a species.theyre simply us,just stripped of morals [not that half of humankind has any left -.-]and life, reanimated.im not trying to control them, just 'alter' their mindset to a point.and why not?it can be done to just about any living thing if you know how to go about it. . .
uhm...me and Brigitta M. are two completely different people with two completely different views on this matter lol though i've now just realized how similar our names are haha xD
Alright, well, I will state my thoughts on the matter now; keep note, most of my 'Research' is from the various Zombie fictions out there, and my own speculation as the what may happen in a live situation.

I agree in that it is impossible to kill all of the Zombies, and it will not be possible for everyone to find sufficient shelter; some that do find impenetrable areas may be destroyed from the inside, mentally or literally, due to insanity or some other effect. So this project has duel purpose; one, the ability to possibly create a short term solution to minor, and eventually larger swarms of Zombies, and it also keeps one occupied enough and hopeful enough to not feel the urge to take that hacksaw to your sleeping comrades.

To the concept itself; I am not sure how well it would work. In some of the research I have done, I find that Zombies don't eat human flesh because it's driven to do so out of sheer blood craving, but because every other possible food source has become inedible. Attempting to eat anything other than human flesh results in retching, vomiting, and maybe more. But, that goes into whether or not they need to eat at all.

Some sources say that they don't need to eat, and that it is just an innate desire, either by a parasite, a driving force (Evil?) or that it's just what they deem the most effective measure of attack, and a means to get reinforcements; this would imply they have intelligence however, at least on a hive level.

Other sources say they have to eat, and that the only thing they can eat (Known from the moment of turning, for whatever reason) is non-rotting flesh. So, I do not know if it would be possible to 'spike' their food with samples of other things to gradually turn them, but, this is what fiction offers us. These fictions are largely built with terror in mind, and what better way to make a terrifying creature than something that's sole food source is you? So in the event of an actual Zombie invasion, the real research would have to take place.

But, then, another matter would be the subjects themselves. How long until they lose control of their minds? I think that some, particularly the strong willed, could maintain themselves to some degree until the brain starts to erode more fully. Another thing to consider is perhaps, as much as I hate to suggest it, a 'vaccine' of sorts. Give all of the living something of a counter-virus, if not a cure, then something that allows the user to either; a) retain mental facilities even after death, or b) become highly susceptible to suggestion. The latter is already around in various drugs and the like, but it would have to have some sort of trigger to only activate after the subject is dead (Thus the peril, as some organizations may use it to control the masses of living people.)

But, again, that is not a solvent for the already undead, but a method to keep more from turning indefinitely. For the Zombies, I would say that, considering current fiction, it is not very possible to be sure of what methods will and will not work; there are so many different types of 'Infection' that there is no true way of telling what kind of Zombie will actually arise... no pun intended.

But, there it is; pardon the wall of text, such as it is.
lol as ive said in the group, thank you for taking an interest in and revitalizing this topic.

due to my inactivity via health concerns, the topic died down. . .

but seeing as the LZ has grown significantly since the original posting of
this topic, hopefully there will be a few members out there willing to see
my points and willing to aid us in the effort.

openmindedness is a must have in any situation.so if youre willing to take
a different view on the zombie problem, feel free to contact me or even
join the group i set up specifically for this purpose =]
