The chainsaw is a weapon of such nature that one has difficulty discerning its practical applications. Its strong, its loud, and i pumps the user up. However, it is loud and draws in zombies, as well as having a finite fuel use. So, america, what are the pros and cons of this time-honored weapon?

If I have to get a weapon from the toolshed I'll take the shovel...
chainsaw + riot mask= badass with no infection; now rig your camelbak water pouch to pump extra fuel to the chain saw...(think on that one :P) me personally though... too much noise, not enough fuel, and it always has a nasty habit of locking up when you don't have bar oil. not good when you've been grinding zombies with it all day.
so i'd have to go with... something in my shed you say? one of my garden hoes with the head straitghtened out... instant low quality spear :)
To me a chainsaw is an exelent weapon in close quarters but blood castoff and fuel are a problem but another problem is jamming, chainsaws are made for the cutting of trees not soggy human bodys so strips of gore and flesh will get into the moving parts and jam it but getting to the pros is that they are made to go through trees in seconds so a human body is no match for it and the fuel problem is simple... electrical chainsaw, one extention cord and you can hack away for hours and it is one of the weapons first thought of when someone hears the word zombie its an icon so even with its drawbacks it will still be used no matter what
A chainsaw attached to your arm would be cool and stupid at the same time. You can multitask. It is also time consuming and dangerous. This is just a joke.It has nothing to do with how great a chainsaw is which I think a chainsaw would be good if having like a barricade and just strolling down it cutting up zeds.
I would use this tool to the greatest potential, however not in the traditional way. I propose it be used as an attraction of zombies. It can be done in a number of ways, for a number of opportunities. Think about putting a running chainsaw out in the middle a field. It should attract zombies in the surrounding area quite well, considering the noise made, zombies will move toward it with great interest believing it means a tasty meal. However, being the clever trap it actually is, they meet certain death because you are at the top of the ridge overlooking the field with your rifle. You take them out one by one as they come to the chainsaw. End result: a cleared area with very little threat to you. Feel free to set up camp overnight, of course making sure you will be protected in case any straglers happen to be on their way.

To go further, say you have a team of survivors, about 8. Dig a pit, place the chainsaw in as before, a trap that is most effective.

I use it, not with my hands, but with my brain and a little stategic improvisation.
The chainsaw is a waste of time. It will get stuck, you will have to restart it. It will need to re-fuel, & you would not want all that infected blood flying around you either. I say NO on the chainsaw...:)
Love it, for cutting wood. I have a STIHL 290. Cuts right through hard oak.
exactly, its made for wood, not flesh. use it to cut down a couple trees and make a barrier.
No on the chainsaw. The cons of this weapon, finite fuel, loud and attracts nearby zombies, blood splatter, and most of all the danger of slipping and injuring yourself rather than the ghoul, weigh heavier than the good. The adrenaline rush from it's distinctive roar would have a noted psychological affect on the user, but overall it doesn't have enough other benefits.

If you were on the run, the weapon would be useless due to it's heavy weight and limited fuel. It could have a use in defending a fortified structure; but why use a close combat weapon if you could attack from farther away with, say, a rifle?

However, after a confrontation with the undead, the chainsaw could be used to mop up remaining zombies, or to dismember zombie corpses for easier disposal.
You have to keep sharpening the chain too. Sometimes the chain loosens up and comes off the rail. Keep it for cutting wood.
No chainsaw, for all the reasons listed, plus the fact that its so fucking easy to injure yourself using one. A little slipepry blood on the grip is all it would take to send it careening out of your hands and into your own GD leg. And no one wants that.
I hate the chainsaw craze about killing zombies. It's loud, heavy, and just weird using it to kill something. There are so many more practical weapons for destroying Zombies.
