in 28 weeks later...well that speeks for itself, shawn of the dead its 6 months. i live in Houston Texas with a population of 2,144,491
so i think it could take some time to clear that amount of dead out
well, you also have to consider evacuees. If an invasion of such a large town occurred, the government would move into action ASAP. However, it might take awhile for Bush to find a dictionary to look up the word 'Zombie' and then you'd have a bit of a wait on your hands. Depending on the amount of people safe, there might be only around some thousand zombies, which the Army, or something could take care of. That might take a few months at most. A large scale invasion, complete with Bush proclaiming 'Mission Accomplished' on a float in the middle of a swarm of Zombies, it could take weeks for containment of 100%, and then almost a year to kill them all, and a few more months to return the town to normal.
As it is, Texas is one of several places in the U.S. with a medium to High probability of Zombie outbreak. Factors that define this are: 1. Lots of small towns, which are good breading zones for zombies, and 2. A good handful of large towns, which would act as beacons saying "Food Inside!" Other states with this kind of probability are Nevada, and Arizona.

Well the heat in Texas is a key factor. The decay rate would be a lot higher. A zombie left out in the sun in Texas would rot a lot faster than in my little Michigan town. I'd give a zombie a month tops before movement would become an issue (i.e. no movement/very slow movement), but with such large numbers and the fact that everyone doesn't get infected at once it would take a few years before all the infected rotted to a point where you could more easily start a clean up.
After something like this nothing could ever be the same, i've been fending off the undead for quite some time now and a normal day for me is getting jumped by 2-4 zombies and barly escaping...
Essentially you just have to wait for all the zombies to starve. And, as unintelligent as they are, I doubt that will last long because they seem to continue eating until the food is gone or other, more gruesome happenings come to pass. But if enough people decide not to evacuate, or the city gets quarantined, they will likely have quite enough food, coming across live humans rarely enough, to survive for several years, or at least months. But, because no one has yet to hold a zombie in captivity for much time, we don't have an idea how long they will survive without food, or if they even will die of starvation. This is just something we'll have to find out soon.
