Now this plan is for the later stages of a survivor group. My ideal is that should the outbreak occur and the world fall apart...I would want to survive to be the vengeance of the human race. My plan would be gather all the weapons and supplies I could find as well as enlist as many personnel as I ran across, and we would make a push for higher ground, mountains...glaciers...extreme climates that they couldn't survive in...or would have a hard time surviving in. I think in the end we would all go to someplace like Alaska or Greenland, even someplace totally outside the plan..like a town which had a great supply of large buildings not utilized correctly. We would also have a non aggression agreement with other survivors who didn't want to join us. The plan is to eventually build an army large enough from the ashes of humanity and strike back like beasts and reclaim our world....if nature wouldn't do that for us by some means. You never really know...some times I feel like I'm just uttering madness from my mouth...

Sounds good from a broad perspective. Although I think it's wise to make sure you gather the right skill sets in your initial survivor group. Mental stability and personality is important to keep in mind as well. What do you think?
also to go along with what Lost said weapon expertise will be crucial in survival. also organization can make or break a team form groups that work well together can be the best thing you can do as a leader
There has been a great deal of talk since Max Brooks published the survival guide of plans which involve heading for extreme climates. These climates are favorable for two reasons: 1) lower living population, and 2) the theoretical difficulty the undead would have in extreme cold. But I feel these plans ignore a very real fact. extreme climates are hard for anyone to live in. It seems that with moving to the arctic regions we would be trading one threat for survival for another, much more prevalent and constant threat. And if you add in the fact that there would be very little, if any commercial production in an apocalyptic setting, choosing to live in an area where crop production is almost impossible might be a bad idea. Yes, you would be able to gather supplies along the way, but supplies run out, and an arctic road in the winter makes for a tough supply run. I believe we are over-looking a much better option. National wildlife reserves. By definition these areas are secluded from persistent human contact and are often several hours away from any major cities. Most of these, such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park offer incredible opportunities for food, building supplies, and natural defenses. I'm not saying it would be perfect, but I would rather take my chances in a mountain cove, with walled in vegetable gardens and 200 miles of terrain between me and the next city than a glacier.

As for personnel, I think Lost is absolutely right. One unhinged member with a few sticks of dynamite and a lack of a desire to live could spell doom for any party, regardless of defenses, location, or how well conceived the plan may be. However, I doubt any of us will have the luxury of hand picking volunteers or detailed psychological evaluations. Perhaps the best course of action might be a little forethought. I for one have already selected most members of my primary team and we have worked out a strategy for meeting and mobilization. As far as skill sets, diversity is the key. So far we have an electrician, mechanic, cop, engineer, hydraulic mechanic, martial arts instructor, welder, nurse, counselor, and several reserve members of the military.
You make sense about the parks, ranger stations could be well stocked and defended and lookout towers could be set up as emergency fall back shelters and most are connected by radio...I'll meet you there
you are definitely well imformed my friend
keep up the posting
trying to stay anywhere near a major city is a bad idea. if the city is overrun, even a modest suburb of 120,000 people could send thousands more creatures at your stronghold than even the best defended place to fight off. i think the arctic areas aren't the best ideas, even with an extensive knowledge of survival skills could die much easier in that kind of climate. another factor: how do you reach those arctic places in the middle of an outbreak? unless you know a pilot or live in Vancouver, your chances are slim of either motor vehicle finding an open enough interstate or finding enough easily attainable gas that kind of distance. a forest nearby to a major city area would be ok if it had natural boundaries. yosemite would be an ideal area but it's renown might attract other human survivors that might not be very civilized. if you can find a pilot in your team (as i have) south america i think might be optimum, especially near the andes.
I would have to agree. Although I think a lot would depend on the speed in which the infection spread. If there was a large enough window so that the sufficiently prepared person had time to follow their plans while the general public is watching the news then that's a great idea. If however we wake up to the ninth level of hell, airports, even rural community ones might be slightly congested. Your hardest fight might just prove to be against a living opponent trying to hijack your plane. Its a gamble, but a gamble with a large potential pay off.
I would agree that moving moving to a glacier isnt a good idea even for some one with the best training there is a reason people dont live there even during the best of times. I think you would live for a shorter time there than if you stayed in a warmer more populated area.
i agree
first of all people are dumb unpredictable and for the most part untrustworthy...the group you are with will either stay together break apart or kill you. but besides for the people the best place to go i think is a prison...they are meant to keep ppl in. go there kill or enlist the inmates (death row guys i would say kill) and you have a nice pre-rienforced building..lots of open area to grow crops huge fences and guns are in there some where....just a thought but you could make a small city out of a prison...
My teacher made my class read for 20 minutes evryday. she gave me the zombie survival guide to read. it got me interested in it in the first chapter. so i took it and read the whole thing on that night. it says that zombies will have a hard time to survive in alaska so if there was a world outbrea. alaska would be a good place to go because locals of alaska would have survived through the whole thing since zombies cant reach them up there. he also said about having small groups about 3 to 7 people would be enough. I myself have no skills watso ever. but I am smart and pretty disciplined so I am good for planning out strategies.
Prison is a good idea.....or to keep on moving....just move from place to placecause eventually supplies dry up
