The best place to be during an outbreak?
Walmart. Mall. House. Tree house. Basement. Hotel...? let me know what you think..

Ok for real I've thought about this and for me easy a castle I used to hang around them all the time perfect idea if yours is still working everything is good about it. Your own well, farm and even animals if you can mange it. and if you are lucky to be up north even better. yeah the nights will suck but the Zeds will freeze and snap no worries there. :)

okay i'd have to say an oil rig. at the beginning of the outbreak, the companies would most likely send everyone home with their families. they have their own way of makin power and fresh water i think. if not you can always boil salt water. you'd be way off the su

boiling saltwater... your on hte right track... in boiling saltwater, you'll be evaporating the water from the salt (leaving only salt)... now, if you can catch the condensation (distilling the water) then there ya go...
If nothing else, im reasonably sure such facilities can just filter the salt from the water, or maybe even have their own facilities for distilling the water... dont want you dying of dehydration out there :D

I read that you can survive on salt water for a short time by absorbing it through your rectum, kind of like a suppository, it would filter out the salt. However I would rather go out in a blaze of glory than spend my last days on Earth splashing salt water up my ass.

Far, FAR away from cities. Besides that, it depends on personal taste and strategy.
Wal-Mart, a mall or a basement are all bad ideas. A house or a hotel would depend on its layout and location. A tree house would be a fairly good idea as long as you have a way out if there are zombies at the base of the tree.
