How about we, as a community of zombie survivalists, put together our own manual for being prepared and staying alive during an outbreak? Members can (based on what they are good at) put down ideas along with directions on how to make it work.
Example; instead of saying fortify your home, put exactly what kinds of things you can do, what materials you will need, and directions for making it work.
It would be nice to see what everyone is good at while helping others who may be new to all this.
Maybe you know of home remedies for illnesses since medicine wont be easily obtained, home defense, or hunting tips for when you may need to go hunting for food for your family or group. Weapon maintenance, anything! I have found many great ideas on this site that i never would of thought of. and i thought i had pretty much thought of everything! lol. But now i find that it is very hard to find them again. It would be cool to be able to go to one place to find them all. so don't be shy! show us what you know. teach others to help themselves so we all have a better chance of survival when the dreaded Z day comes.

I think the first thing is to define zombie... I've noticed a lot of people have varied opinions on their capabilities, origins, physiology, etc
it would seem that not all zombies are the same. i have had people join my group and tell me about running zombies, whereas i have confirmation that they are only capable of running for about 20 feet or so and then the damage is too great for them to continue running (or ever again).
Good idea, it should put that Max Brooks abomination to shame! I'll start work when I get back from walking the dog!
aww, really, I liked the Max Brooks abomination, lol...

but firstly, define 'zombie'... do they move slow, fast, at a walking pace, a fast walk... how are their senses, what is thier capacity for reasoning, how are they created, virus? chemical? radiation from a crashed probe from Venus? supernatural phenomina?... from there we can start I should think
i liked max brooks works as well... better than dawn of the dead 04 or the more recent day of the dead... now those truly were abominations.
World War Z is great!

The survival guide is taken too much as the bible for surviving a zombie apocalypse. It is basically a very simply and rudimentiary set of guidelines and ideas taken from watching a few zombie films.

Great to start your knowledge with, but is seriously lacking in any detail.
i like max brooks.
well, that's going to be kind of difficult, considering none of us has actually seen one. all we really have is explanations from many different sources and none we know for sure are true. for example, i don't believe a zombie will run due to what the body goes through when you die, but that's just me. there are people that indeed believe that they will be tearing after you. so how do we set down guidelines for something that so many people have so many different opinions on?
i like the idea, but how we gonna do it?
Fast zombies are (like an above post) not going to be fast for long due to the damage they take from being fast.

If something is super fast like 28 days later style, then it won't be dead, it will be some kind of crazed living thing. In which case it's a whole other matter. I think the best bet is to stick with a Romero zombie. If something is dead and comes back to life, it is going to be severely restricted mentally and physically.

I think that's where we should start.
ok then lets go from there.(gots to go to work, be back later!!!)
I have always believed that it was the fresher zombies who were capable of sprinting after their prey whereas say a 3 month old zombie wouldn't have quite the same mobility due the decomposition of the muscles and tendons.
Maybe.... we get ahold of Mythbusters?
