I've seen plenty of best weapon and best place to go threads, but not one with gear. I mean stuff like, tools, armor, clothes, shoes, etc. Make sure its practical though, items you can get ahold of. Hell, even stuff you can make yourself!

Currently, I have a paintball mask equipped with an LED tactical flashlight, and a breathing filter to avoid getting debris in my mouth.

I prefer to wear microfiber urban camo thats not too tight, but fits close. Durable black Nike crosstrainers, carbonfiber impact riding armor, and a black resin-fiber backpack.

Tools I would carry-
A knife with a serrated edge.
A small prybar.
A lockpick kit.
A lighter and matches.
A whetstone.
Plyers.
A medical kit.
Several Mp3 players with single portable speakers.

I personally cary a Heavy Bowie, a Combat Knife (Kabar or the like), and a Tracker, anytime im in the field (not nessesarily all at once but i do pack them all out.) If I had to choose I would probably take the tracker (all around more useful) but the heavy bowie would be a close second and much better as a weapon. I've been collecting knives (and using them) since i was 8 years old and these are my favorites.

And please dont take me for one o them "battle ready katana" folks.
Why must you attempt to start another arguement with him? I value his opinion as much as I value yours. How do you think it makes you look when you attack someone like that? Although I'm sure you could care less.
This is a general packing list for survival. This is my personal list. It does not include food or weapons. MRE’s or survival food bars are a good idea for food past that with a little research and practice food can be obtained almost anywhere. Your climate and situation will dictate your necessities. Be familiar with your gear, you should not have anything you do not know how to use. Practice packing and unpacking. I can personally say that this gear can be carried extreme distances even with the added weight of food water and weapons. Proper conditioning is a must, both for you and your gear. DO NOT bring new shoes, you will regret it and it may even cause injury.

In Large Pack of your Choice:

Some items were listed multiple times this was intentional. Do not scavenge from your survival kit to fill your pack or vice versa. This being said there is also reason to carry two survival kits and two first aid kits for long term survival. Please give input or personal preferences for gear it is appreciated. Good Luck.
My survival guide says to try and get light weight chain mail, the kind used for shark bites. Tools are essential!!! Try and locate portable water purification kits and/or tablets. A little on the pricey side but a worthy investment.
I do love my machete...I never leave home without it.

I believe that the "Best Gear" is that which you find to be better off with. There are several discussions related to such a topic and I am always amazed by the number of people who opt for assault weapons and hi-tech pistols with lasers and flashlights etc.

My list (-weapons) is as follows:
1 Leatherman Multi-tool
1 small prybar
1 a flashlight (led, small)
1 set extra batteries
1 firestarting kit
1 whetstone
1 hatchet (gerber has extra knife in handle)
1 small 1st aid kit
1 Survival "how-to" book (for those answers I might need)
1 small spool of fishing line
3 fishing hooks
1 pair work gloves
45' nylon paracord
2 sets spare ammo for whatever I may be carrying
3 sets fresh undies
6 sets fresh socks

I have complete tactical assault rig including my own assault rifle, pistol, etc. but the above is the kit I carry in my car. If I had to choose, I take the basics. If I can't survive with that, I deserve to be eaten.
