Destroying the brain...
I know that for a zombie to be disposed of you must remove the head or destroy the brain, but my question is how much must the brain be destroyed to effectively dispose of a zombie.
For instance, I know a shotgun to the head will take out a zombie, but will a screwdriver into the temple really work? Or that thumbs through the eyes method?

Basicaly, any shot to the head that would kill you will kill a zombie. Which breaking the skull itself is no easy task. If all you have is a screw driver though the temple would be your best bet. A guy in football was put into a coma because he got elbowed there.

I concur.
Any blunt trauma to the cerebral cortex will render them dead (twice over), but, if you don't have a gun, a baseball bat would be the next best thing, it'll split their melon, well, like a melon.
As far as the screwdriver? The human skull is several inches thick, so my suggestion (if you have to get that close), will be to go through the ear canal.
Oh and by the way, if you sever the head, it will still remain alive. It doesn't do much, but still.

Thumbs to the eyes in general would not work, the brain is alittle deeper and would be a pain in the ass, but hey its better than nothing.

Ive incorporated korean ankle gaiters into my kit/outfit. Its basically leather gauntlets for your ankle and lower calf. Perfect for ankle biters.

I believe that disabling the midbrain- specifically on the left hemisphere will destroy and or impair them. The left side of the brain is responsible for motor activity; which is all that Zombies have left.

All it takes is enough damage to stop the brain from functioning properly. Also if your going to decapitate then make sure to stomp the head afterwards otherwise you've just got a gnawing head at your feet.

Yeah I think any damage would do it. I wouldn't try the thumbs through the eyes, I wouldn't want to get my hand anywhere near it's face.
