Are there any people who are making actual preparations for some sort of future apocalyptic event?

If so --- feel free to discuss them.

Yes. If Katrina taught us anything it's this: Should a disaster happen and the governement is unable/unwilling to respond, we all need to be prepared to see ourselves through the worst case scenario. I believe that the Zombie Apocalypse is the absolute worst case scenario. It would mean that everyone would be fighting an entrenched ceaseless enemy with absolute unified purpose (this is slightly regurgitated from Max Brooks, WWZ). I have to agree with Mangangali that such preparations can be tools for a variety of purposes. Prepare for the worst, hope for the fucking best...
Who ever said it was? The strategy is preparing for the worst, the hope is the reason I fucking bother...
Incidentally, perhaps I'm nitpicking here, but "Hope is not a strategy" sounds like something the stone cold hired mercenary says while puffing on his cigar and looking out into the jungle night. I thought this was a serious discussion and it's starting to sound like "Rambo". Hope is what all strategy is based on, especially desperate strategy. If the ZA ever were to happen, it would all be desperate strategy.
You are correct, "Hope is not strategy" but when exactly did I say it was a strategy? If I never said that it was, then why are we even discussing this...I'd like to get back on subject before this escalates into moe silliness. My apologies for being defensive. Let's form a strategy to avoid such tangents in the future.
I agree with both of you in your respective responses. I do agree that rogue has it right when he says hope is the basis of strategy. If you take into consideration just how wide the definition of hope is.

Yet, like all emotions --- none should factor too heavily in the building of strategy. That should be purely based in logic, as well as trial and error.
Thank you, now back to the topic...

Yes lets, as you can see from the pic Im putting a survival kit together although its nowhere near complete. I still plan on adding a lot more to it like a hand cranked radio, a lazer sight for my glock 22 and other important gear.
I am very fond of my Glock 22 as well.

I tried to post a list of all of it last night but for some reason it wouldn't post. I can recognize quite a bit but there are some items I don't. Basesd on what I can see (and recognize) allow me to make some recommendations (should you be open to suggestion)

I'd replace the knife sharpener with a whet stone. Sharpeners of that type are really designed more for butcher knives that are sharpened frequently instead of decent quality survival knives that are intended to hold an edge through hard use.

Other than that, my impression is that it's a good start.

My knife is a bit more slender and I carry it inverted right of center on my back in a friction sheath. Easy carry and silent. With a belt sheath of that type you'll have to sit it in front of your gun (strong side carry) or crossdraw it which can be awkward. Make sure that you fiddle around with the configuration in which you want to carry all these items.

Get yourself a hacksaw and when the time comes, saw a few inches off that shotgun barrel, you'll thank yourself for it.

Add a couple more mags for the Glock as long as you can carry them comfortably. I have six currently (number of mag pockets on my tac vest)
Well I do plan on getting a mossberg to replace the one I have now, which is only a single pump but a great gun none the less. And I do want to get more mags for my glock but there so damn expensive. And you mentioned a whet stone where would I be able to get one for a decent price?
you should be able to get one at any camping/outdoors store. I know we've got canadian tire, so whatever the equivalent of that would be.
You should be able to find one at a sporting good store, Wal-mart, etc. Also, check online for a knive sharpening stone. Ideally, you want something along the line of a course stone (this helps remove nicks and scorses on the cutting edge) and then a fine stone (for sharpening). You'll want oil to go with it (they will likely have the appropriate type wherever you find the stones).
When I bought my Mags they were about $20-$25 ea.
