I started a blog on zombiewiki about how everyshot to the head is not a kill shot. Even in World War Z, the army guy shot a zombie in the head and it didn't die. If it's a headshot that we can survive, then a zombie can survive it, especially since they don't infections, bleed to death, or suffer superficial damage.

True true. It has to be seriously damaging, so don't be afriad if it gets up. Just try again... or run. Ether works.
If you shoot 100 people in the head, how many will survive?

Those odds are good enough for me!
It's not a matter of how many will die, but how many will die from bleeding to death, from secondary trauma, like the parts of the brain comtroling the breathing and heartbeat and such, and how many die from infection. Zombies don't bleed to death, don't suffer secondary trauma, and don't get infections. I'm not saying don't shoot them in the head, I'm just saying if you crack one in the head with a crowbar or you shot one and it goes down in some water like a river or falls in some bushes... don't assume it's down for good.
spot on
if you can shoot them in the middle of the back of the head.Thats your brain stem that sends messages to your spine and to your nerves that control your body parts.
Ah, the melodious sounds of surviving dead from full ball ammunition.

Lead is often frangible, but often depending on "X" number of variables, it is true that some people have "survived" [though lobotomized might be a better term] a shot to the head because the bullet remained intact enough to not cause the type of trauma that "exploding" rounds create...

Hollow points are nice because there's blunt force trauma, penetration, kinetic "punch" and most importantly to "Zack" that all too necessary frangible penetration of the brain in about 16 different directions.

"Dum-Dums" [look it up you youngsters int eh crowd- it's a real bullet...] are nice because [as it was once put to me by an instructor] you get "The Pin-point of light coming in- and The Holland Tunnel goin' out"!

Loads/shot that lend themselves readily to 1st- penetration [gotta get through that brain bucket] 2nd- expansion [allowing for as much blunt force trauma as you can get in a square inch of area] and 3rd kinetic energy delivered- you've got yourself a nice load capable of dropping and keeping a shambler down.

Some say 9mm isn't enough- I'd say a good non-slug, kinetic energy round may be what you're looking for- it'll be the penetration power that you'll find lacking except at closer ranges...

Cleric
Yes Agreed,Make sure to INCAP the brain!!!!
Vs.
ok, so keep shooting.../thread
I completely agree that a head shot is not always going to be a definite kill! Hence why I stick to machetes, swords, hatchets, etc... Some fall backs to these weapons are the range at which they can be utilized. A firearm is great for a kill that's not in close range. Decreases the chance of getting bit as well. I wouldn't rely on a firearm as my primary defense mechanism because eventually I will need more amo and might not have access to what I need. World War Z opened my eyes to just how vulnerable most people will be, and helped my team better prepare ourselves for the inevitable.
if you read the wwz passage, it said there is a chance that the shot grazed or missed the zed brain.
very true, a firearm is great for someone who is a great shot. I know that I can hit a target about 100 feet away, but I am dead-on with a sword or machete!
What about a Barrett 50.cal?.....thats if u hav one
