We all talk about how we'll function when the zeds rise and etc. etc.

but to be honest, how will you really react when the S#$@ hits the fan?

I mean, most of you would snap under presure, or lose moral (filled with fear) and just split-n-run from a bunch of zeds or so. I mean, we all know what to do. but will our minds allow us to go through it?

Military trained personnel on here all can say they can brush off the fear the sight of even one zed gives. but can you really handle the sight of maybe at least a platoon sized group of zombies?

but normal Civiys around here, mostly the under aged, which is under 19 or 17, would be truly frightened and their minds will freeze in the case of zed outbreak and/or in close proxy of one or two.

To make more sense, every zed has their advantage over us, the living, which is their massive numbers, their very sight of themselves, and what I call the familiar face. (explained at the end).

Of course, even I would have trouble dealing with them at first, but since I know so much about'em, it'll take less time to get used to fighting them as well putting up with them when they are just outside blocked by something.

so in closing, the worst enemy is not a zombie, but your mind. Fear can really kill someone if he or she freezes when battling their numbers.

Q: What is the Familiar face?

A: The Familiar face is what I call the Zombie's only useful tactic against the living. which brings me to this question: Do you love your family and friends? putting two-n-two together, A zombie can be anyone.

Now, the Familiar face tactic can have various effects on people, like when someone watches their beloved turn in front of their eyes, or when someone is fighting a horde, they notice someone they know/loved, like when a guy sees his girlfriend among the horde:

if he is used to seeing friends/family, he'll accept this lose and put that zombie down, OR, he'll freeze with fear and disbelief long enough for that zombie to move in for the killing blow (or bite).

So over all, anyone can fall for this tactic. which can be easily countered, just simply accept your lost and put that zombie down before it can get anyclose.

now....discuss this matter.

Pfft...yeah, most people who think zombies are bullshit and fancies of lunatics would panic and therefore die. I on the other hand am ready for zeds so i dont think the appearance of few zombies would strike bitter fear into me(adrenaline - yes, fear - no). Of course standing against a crowd of "dead-not-so-dead" persons without the ability of beating them all would make me sweat.
For me the initial shock would be the most dangerous time. I'm not the kind of person to give up because things are bad or have been bad for a while but seeing a gruesome dead person walking towards you, especially at night, would really affect your thinking. I would say that being efficient in armed and unarmed combat would also help due to some enhanced reflexes. If you have a gun then being familiar with that would be a plus as well. I think at first I would have some trouble killing an undead person because of how much I value human life. My mind would probably be racing, asking if I knew for sure that they were a zombie.

I would think that the more zombies you killed the easier it would get. For some people the first one may not be any different than the 100th but for me it would be hard at first. It would be easy to sit here and say that I could totally handle the situation but if I look deep within myself I know that killing a creature with human form, especially the first time, would be extremely difficult.
This is exactly what I wanted to say. Such a situation would expand the rate of infection more quickly. Now the cop has been bit and here comes John Smith running out of his house because there are people trying to knock in his back door, he sees a cop and gets bit. The dance keeps on from there...
It's funny...I think about this a lot. I'm not worried about this myself...I know how I react in extreme crisis. Deal with the problem, freak out when it is over. When something horriffic happens, I go cold. Everything is simple. Identify the problem, identify the potential obstructions to dealing with the problem, deal with the obstructions, deal with the problem. Repeat until the problem no longer exists.
When the problem is eliminated or there is a time for rest, then I deal with the emotional impact. I have proven it time and time again. A zed outbreak would be the same. As soon as I identified the problem I would go into my "Take Care of It" mode, and freak out over "WTF was that?" later...even weeks later if need be.

I think the best example of real world reactions to out of this world occurances would be she Sci-Fi Networks Scare Tactics. It shows normal humans put into extrordinary circumstances and how they cope (Or fail to). This includes people who claim to be skeptics, people who claim to be all tough and badass and people who already thing this sort of thing is going to happen. Only about one out of ten people on the show will react what I would consider well. They size up the situation and deal with it calmly and rationally. They assess the risks quickly and deal with the situation decisively. Two out of the 10 will react in a way that might buy them some survival time- The flat out run away (Usually the baddass types). How far would they need to run in order to get far enough from the situation to be able to effectively negate the threat is up for debate, but at least they are doing something, and in the case of Zed invasion, this is actually a good strategy.
The other 7? Freak out and freeze because they cannot comprehend what is going on. The shut down and babble. Some do the scooby doo dance of fear (Lots of movement, but go nowhere), some start screaming and covering their eyes, some start begging or praying and some just drop and curl up into a ball. The sex of the victem seems to have little bearing on which type of reaction occurs. Males are just as likely to freak out and do nothing as females. So...From this example, 3 out of 10 might have a chance.
Just my observations.

I've seen that one but not all the way through until now, I see what you mean. I guess it stands to reason that none of us will ever really know for sure until it happens. It sucks to say it that way because I really believe that I would detect something as being wrong immediately and act accordingly. I would also be lying if I said I have never misread a situation with poor results. The only thing that I can really say with any certainty, is that I am preparing, have been preparing and when the shit hits the fan, I'll be as ready as I can be...
well... i think i wud be scared at first, but after i get used to it (if im still alive) i wont be scared. i can shoot really good so i hope that im not paralyzed with fear.im not much of a melee person
While I havn't experienced a zombie encounter yet and can't garuntee 100% of what I would do. I am willing to bet my life that I wouldn't lose it. I say that because I've already looked death in the face. When I did I had three options. I could run, reach out to friends, or freeze up and die. My first and only action was to reach out to my friends. And I was lucky enough to have ones close enough that could help. I was two breaths away from death and they were not wasted. That is why I can say with confidence that I would be a pillar of strength should the zombies come.

Now as for a particular scenario... One zombie... two zombie? two hundred? Am I armed? Unarmed? Has it made CNN's front page as a zombie outbreak? Or am I seeing one dude biting the shit out of another?

If it hadn't really hit me that they were real zombies I'd treat it as an insain person. Get them off of anyone, and subdue them. Probably getting my ass bitten. But if I had come to terms that they were really zombies then I wouldn't hesitate. Family or friend zombies? It would be a sad goodbye, but they would be the one laying on the pavement. I don't want to be a zombie, and I believe no one in their right mind would want to be either. If I get bit, either let me go out in a blaze of glory or die with the peace of mind, that I did what was nessesary to keep others safe.
well said on the third paragraph.
here here!!
no matter how you look at it we will all be stunned when it happens and for some of these military people on here go you know you would be scared at first its ok to agree with that and i dont give a shit if your god you still will be scared at first with that said after shock is gone and youve commed down and you can t5hink with a clear head go with your plan but something i read on here to wich i agree with is you would have to kniow who is and who isnt a stench
