Well, whats better? Bicycle or Car? Now your mind might jump right to car but; lets face it. The enemy is slow, anything beyond a jog will outrun them. Cars require gasoline, and I don't care how much of it you have backed up you always run the risk of running out and searching for more. Bicycles are portable and you can always have them with you. The only thing the car has going for it is power and warmth.
Other than that... Bicycle FTW

...Maybe solar car...

Car, with bike rack AND bike! Run outta fuel, hop on the bike!
Hey all you guys using a bicycle, write a big "B" on your forehead with a permanent marker. When you are shambling around we'll take you out quick.
lol!
Yeah, a bike is silent and can run for a long time is you have a tire pump for emergencies. A car on the other hand is much safer and by the time zombies hear it your driving past them and they can't keep up. You also have plenty of room to store weapons, ammunition, food and supplies. The smart thing to do would be to get a car and strap a bike or two onto it. I hope that idea doesn't make anyone's brain hurt too much. No offense!
Don't forget, a big "B" on your forehead, permanent marker.
All I have to say... if you have a car, avoid cities, towns, highways. Hell get a hummer and get off the road. Gasoline is important..so uhh Make sure you have enough for at least more than just a month.
Hell... don't be ON the road, find shelter in a place you'll know they can't get you, or at least be able to shoot them up. [yeah! bang bang shoot em' up shoot em' up yeah!]
sorry.

A BIG "B" MAN.
lol where are you getting your gas? Repairs? the damages done by hitting these zombies at high speeds. What happens when a dumbass like you runs out of gas and is stuck in a tin can out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by zeds? Write a big "A" on your head for asshole so that I can shoot you on sight and spare you the pain of being eating alive by zombies. [=
If you would happen to read some of my other posts on vehicles instead of going off like the dumbass you are you would see that I realize that fuel is finite. After a year gasoline and diesel starts to gel. It is worthless after it gels. Other arrangements need to be made for transportation. My plans would be to use vehicles to get out of the most dangerous area. There are hand pumps that can be used to syphon fuel from abandoned vehicles. There are pumps available with to syphon from ground storage tanks and the caps on these tanks can be removed with a drill or a pry-bar.
Pay attention, look around before spewing. As you said in another post, you tend to Ramble. "R"
I can see where your coming from but you keep talking about the long term survivial. Vehicles wouldn't be so well as they will break over a certain amount of time, And the stress that you will be putting on your vehicle. Plus the stress that you will put on your vehicle could be more in a apocoliptic state. Driving uphil and over rough terrian will cause hell for your tires. Then if you need to switch tires do you have the tools? or knowledge for that matter. Other repairs that will most likely need to be done with your car would be oil changes. They can be quick and easy to do. If you have the oil. And the right kind of oil. Trasnmittions will also break over time. And those are like hell to repair trust me I'v worked on them with my dad many times. And chances are the car that your getting won't be new. Sorry if i was a bit harsher earlier. But there are alot of factors your not adding.
Oh, I'm well aware of the stress put on cars. I take care of my own now that the warranties have run out. My wife and i have 6 horses. there are detractors to them too but they are reliable. Getting out of the cities and Metro centers is priority.
Horses can get scared and buck and panick. Have your horses ever been met with the living dead? you'll never know how they will react. Plus thats just another mouth to feed.
