I know that through many of the forums we have brought up the zombie survival guide and some say that Mr.Brooks was indeed making fun of us. But here's the truth, he is one of us! If any haters have never read his book to begin with then you don't have the right to attack him.
From defence to attack and on the run, he makes great sense. I mean to says it's humor is to say that zombies killing and eating you is funny. The only reason his book is in the humor section is that he was forced to place it there or no one would publish his book. There wasn't one piece of humor in it.
The only logical argument you could make is the type of zombie he said would exist. If he's wrong then we are fucked anyway, if he's right then the slow zombie he mapped it out logically.
He book is really based on theory but it's all based on back logic. A zombie is just a human but dead and it's brain has been fucked up. Don't judge this until you have read the book and seen Max Brooks answer Q&A.

It's fine for begginers for when people say it is the bible of everything zombie related, makes me laugh so hard!
It's blatently obvious watched dawn of the dead and then decided he knew everything and wrote that book.
It is a fun read but it's the Harry Potter of the zombie survival knowledge world. Like someone said before, it is an insult to harcore zombie fans when people.

alot of the book seems to be common sense. i'm reading it right now and nearly done. i think everything in the book is well though out but it also needs to be taken with a grain of salt. alot of the "facts" are oviously made by him.
Like Neos says; most of it is common sense. I would consider it a very BASIC book; as most of it is completely based on his own theoretical rhetoric. Also --- between the two books, you can see how he fights to support his own theories. He has a knack for wanting to make the most unlikely weapon seem the best choice --- and that's just for shock value.
One thing which is glaringly obvious is his theories on underwater zombies. He states that the undead are as strong, structurally as a standard human being --- yet he says they seem to be impervious to intensly high pressure --- to which I know for sure that a zombie falling to the true bottom of the ocean would simply implode from the weight of the water.
Anyhow --- the best thing to do is stick to the time honored survival handbooks --- and keep in your own mind the theory of the zombie.

your best bet will be to asses the situation as it happens and adujust, its the end of everything! How can you plan for that! At best make sure your armed and in good shape!
the whole book is humor.brooks was a writer from saturday night live and he took his love of zombies and compiled a guide based mostly apon romero movies and his own creative process on what happens beyond the movies.if you read this book and dont even chuckle i wonder about where your humor lies.i think his books are good but of the 2 i read neither were great.
The survival guide is a bit hypocritical at times, like when in one section, he said the use of nuclear weapons on zombies was a bad idea, because the zombies could survive being apparently tossed into the bottom of the fucking oceans, nuclear fallout, anything else that would OBVIOUSLY kill anything remotely earthly organism.
A zombie can survive more rads then apparently any organism in the universe known to man.
yeah fucking right.
