ok not really.
but yet again im let down by a good idea gone wrong.
i recently viewed the day of the dead remake with Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon..., and Michael Welch. which i had to admit, had a decent plot and some decent outbreak footage with some amazing gore, but Romero consistently RUINS all the good zombie movies there are with his hard-on for smart zombies, fast zombies, zombies that can use weapons or retain memories of their past lives, and new to me, only found in this movie... "spider zombies!" ok..not really. but zombies that crawl on all fours up walls and on ceilings? come the fuck on.. obviously all zombie movies are fictional, but there is a fine line between fictional and absolutely fucking cheesy. Romero time and time again crosses over that line. In my opinion there needs to be some sort of realism factor in any survival horror movie to make it actually appeal and bring some sort of real fear to the viewer. Something that would make you say "damn thats fucking scary" and have some sort of belief that maybe it COULD actually happen. i lose that belief every time i view a Romero film.
i dont understand how film makers dont see this same exact point. although there are some movies that did a decent job with there zombie physics. for example- 28 days/weeks later, although the zombies were infected with rage, they only moved at a rate applicable to their body structure and muscle mass.. which over time would deteriorate and the zombie would become immobile. this strikes me as believable and i applaud them, and other zombie films like dawn of the dead and resident evil had similar believable physics which resulted in good films. although i will say the resident evil trilogy took a WRONG TURN after the very first movie. fear moved out and hollywood moved in, turning those last 2 films into zombie mockery's. i want to live the fear, not watch superwoman mow down zombies. which is completely ditching the video game roots the movie originated from..
anyways,
Romero insists on taking zombie movies "out of the box" but only ends up butchering an extremely good plot line with shitty acting and comical zombies. He has managed to ruin land of the dead, day of the dead, and diary of the dead within the last few years. dont let him ruin another potentially good movie.
it was directed by steve miner, i know. romero played a part in the production and the rewrite along with jeffery reddick the screenplay writer. overall im not only speaking about that film but all of his films, he might not of had a huge hand in that one, but it is based off his original, however slimly.
the day of the dead remake is complete garbage. i cant believe they even call it a remake of george romeros d.o.t.d. i wish some one would take makeing a remake like that more seriously. when tom savini did the remak of night, it was awsome.. he did a great job. why would zombies crawl on cielings? why would someone who was was a vegetarian in life be the same thing after they become a zombie? that takes away from the whole thing that makes the living dead cool. i would love to see a great remake of the romero classics. the day of the dead remake sucked, sucked, sucked!!! the dawn of the remake was alright. i liked it, i own it. but i still think it wouldv'e been better as a stand alone zombie flick. at least it wasnt as bad as that garbage they call a remake.what a way to spit in the face of the father of living dead movies... THE GREAT GEORGE ROMERO. land was ok, diary was great . keep up the good work george. lets hope hollywood gets it right with W.W.Z.
