How many people to a group?

I agree keep the party size down to 4-6. More people means more confusion when the zombies hit the fan. Whats more confuseing then 5 scared confused people? 20 or so confused scared people! Assign sectors when traveling, IE someone watched the left, the right, the front, and the rear. Devolope a silent signal for converseing "danger ahead" or "2 zeds this way", silence is golden. This should go without saying but, don't pack all your gear on 1 person, this could be hard to maintain if you "meet up" with other people, after all whats mine stays mine.

Well it really depends on where you're going, how long its going to take you, and the personalitys and physical fitness of those in your group.
Personally, I would want to be travelling in a small group of about 10 or less people. Its a good number for combat if you have to hold a position or hack your way through something, and if there's any egomaniacal cowards acting for their own benifit and not that of the group (E.G. hiding when theres a fight going on for no good reason/ not telling somebody they've been infected) then they can be easily dealt with or dispatched. Leadership of the group would come from the most charismatic amoung the number, but it could still be challenged if the need arose. You could keep food and water consumption relitivley low and ovverall your plans would be more effective if you had everybody contributing to the idea. Transportation would be the only forseeable problem, and you might need to outfit a vehicle for such a purpose (Keep in mind a post-apocolypse vehicle would have to be able to run over zeds and keep going, keep zeds off of it, and have good durability and milage. So you may need more than one)

ok to all those who want big groups what happens when you have to go through tight areas or very confinded and confusing places? to how ike small groups what happens when you find your self overwelmed by zeds or hostile survivors? you need both sizes that is why a military group structure is the best to follow. it works on all levels.

i would sugest that you have small teams of five at most with different skill sets.more at your main base guarding cleaning and whatever.and a couple af groups like this and maybe proposing to form a coalition and instead of just having "survivors" you can have zombie hunters and you can start to slowly claim the land for the living again right but of course it can be risky

I agree with everything you are saying, to be honest. As far as how many people, that should vary depending on the circumstances present. Do we plan on living in our safehouse? Are we drifters and just plan on roaming aimlessly around the world? Smaller groups of about 3-5 would be safest on your travels if you plan on going on a supply hunt. If you plan on living in your safehouse permanently, how big is it? 20 people can't really survive in an RV, but 4 people don't need to be living in a huge prison. I don't know, that's just my opinion. I agree with everything you're saying, though.

When you say "people", that's pretty general.  I mean there is a pretty big differnce between having 18 nuns with you or a platoon of US Army Rangers.  Personally I'll take all the armed, trained, disiplined folks I can find.
