Hypothetically, let's say you have a friend who is totally incompetent, but you hang out with him just for laughs. One day, there is a large-scale zombie invasion, and you and a couple of other friends, much more competent than the afore-mentioned, all get together. Your loser friend is also with you, and early on he already shows signs of mental instability. He is a stress-eater, screws up everything you tell him to do, and you are beginning to be afraid of letting him have a weapon, lest he turn it against one of you. Still, he's always been there for you ever since you were kids, and you owe him for saving your life once... what do you do?

ID KILL HIM FOR FOOD
well if my friends won't dance, and if they don't dance, then they're no friends of mine....

seriously... i am a very patient individual... I would try TRY to get him/her in line...but if it costs too much to the safty of me, and my group/family... then I may just have to...
Of course I will say"Get some food and meet back at Wal-mart."and then run away with my friends and say"We aren't going to die because of a fucking loser who can't do anything."
I would stick by my dim-witted companion.
Most of the people I know are dim-witted and just a little crooked in the mental department. I'd have to let them go. My survival and the survival of my group depends on making decisions that don't harm us. And that guy just sounds like he'd get us killed within a couple weeks.

Sayonara, mister dumdum. But we're not dying because you wanna go nom nom on all the food and try to kill us with a butter knife.
I think my biggest problem with this question is... and i like the set up... but sanity is a very fluid term, it is also a very changeable state of mind...example, I am a very straight laced kind of person, I try to run everything on a schedule, but when that is taken away what will i do..one of three things, survive, thrive, or go starkraving mad. Same goes with anybody here I should imagine.... how many people going into the military are thinking they'll be hardcore killers, get into combat, and freeze...how many opposite

my thoughts
I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but sanity refers to the state of mind one is in when they are fully able to handle the situation. I don't believe it is very "fluid" or "changeable", per se, but I do find it very escapable by the average man.
i have 17 confirmed kills in the marines, scout sniper.
one three year tour.
we were trained to kill if your an enemy....your dead...and most of us have that "switch" to change enemies...
Simple really...
Needs of the many out weigh the wants of the few or the one.
especially if I also have to protect my family.
I wouldnt just ditch him though- but I certainly wouldnt go back either.
"Shape up, or I'll kill you myself."

My friends have and I understanding, in serious situation, there's no bickering, slacking, or other nonsense. We're only as strong as our weakest link. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to die becuase of someone elses mistake, no matter how close we are.
Oh my goodness! I'm like this friend (only I'm not such a fatass)! I hope I'm never going to be that much of a problem, seeing as how everyone's going to kill me...
I would leave him. He's unable to fight.
