1. Does anyone here actually know how to shoot a gun? Or own any?? Because I see a lot of people like just saying theyre going to get a shotgun and just start blowing heads off...I know some people can obtain a gun and shoot them well (I'm actually a pretty fine shot myself :D), but a lot of people I doubt. So can you shoot a gun?

2. What about food in a zombie outbreak? What would you eat? If you found food while scavenging would you eat it? I would probably only eat completely sealed never been open food. Better hungry then taking a bite out of an infection riddled sandwich amirite?

3. What about electricity, plumbing, etc.? Do you think it would stay on during an outbreak and for how long? If there was no electricity and plumbing how would you cope with showers, lights, bathroom, etc.?

Just some questions.

i actually have shot a rifle, i don't remember what size or type it was, but i used to shoot cans with my grandfather when i was 11 or 12. i havent shot anything but pellet guns since then, but i would love to get my gun back, my ass brother took it.

as far as food during an outbreak, stock up on canned goods is always recommended, and if possible start a garden, learn to hunt and whatnot. the American people has learned way too much luxury living, we just go to the nearest store and get whatever crap we feel like, and when the shit hits the fan most turn to looting, kill themselves, or actually try and survive.

depending on the class of the outbreak class 1 or 2 the power would most likely stay on for a little while, 3 and 4, learn to do without, get a bicycle powered generator, or gas for emergencies. plumbing/ water would prolly stay on about as long as the power, so for the toilet get bleaching powder or lime powder, keep it away from your garden(if applicable). it's recommended to use 3 quarts of water a day for washing, bathing, and cooking.

all of this is from my 3rd read thru of Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide. this book has everything, i carry it around with me, and if i'm quoting it this well from memory i think i'll be better off than most caught unprepared.
1. Yup. Practice as often as possible.

2. Canned foods. Dry goods. Stock up everytime you see them and you're not being attacked.

3. Depends on the source of local power. It'll stay on as long as the system's got fuel (barring any problems with equipment, etc.). I can't be sure, not working for the system, but I would guess places with hydro would do better than fuel-based. When the power goes, I guess I would head out to a secluded place. Preferably with a lake or pond.
With a lake or pond, what if just one infected happens to stumble in? Wouldn't the whole lake be infected because of that? I'm not an expert on that stuff so I wouldn't know. With canned food you need to cook it usually right? Without electricity and gas stoves are out I think? I go camping all the time so I know how to cook a lot of food just over a fire, but you need to find a safe place to light a fire and theres the problem of the fire attracting infected.

I was also wondering if some food had been opened and sitting out during the outbreak, but hadn't come in contact with an infected, could it gain the infection by just being in contact with small amounts of it in the air?

I would probably eat a lot of slim jims and beef jerky and drink a lot of monster...
Road trip food is ftw!
canned goods: not necessarily. A lot of canned and dry goods you can eat right out of the can. In fact, unless you're dealing with soup, it's not necessary to cook the food, in order to eat it, generally speaking.

Plus, as long as it's used sparingly, a camping stove is an excellent item to keep around (propane heated and all... you can often find propane in the same places as food).

Water: This is a good question. I would say -if- a zombie or infected person were to get in the water, there is a chance that the infection could spread through the water. Maybe a spring would be better......

Canned fruit and veggies, man. Beef Jerky is great, but you've gotta have the greens. Dried fruit, maybe...
canned foods can be eaten right out of the can. as long as the food hasn't spoiled your should be good
most versions, whichever one is the true zombie source, are only transmitted from one or organism to another by direct contact
Double post, but what about phones? Would either cells or home work?
as long as satellites are up and running along with maintenance phone use would be functional... out of all the things a government should be doing during a catastrophic outbreak(if they care about their citizens), it should be maintaining constant communication with trapped, stranded or otherwise isolated civilians... again, if they cared
I own far too many guns, and I know how to use them. Grab food where you can. Dried goods last ages. Elecrticity would be down before a week was out. I guess that leaves us unwashed, in the dark, and pooping in the woods.
1. i've shot a gun(rifle) once and i no, i don't know ow to shoot a gun

2. i would only eat food sealed like you said and freshly caught fish or game... and your right about the infected sandwich thing lol

3.i can live without electricity/power just by drawing or writing, i keep to myself for the most part especially around strangers (shy)
I qualified expert as a Marine so yes I can shoot. I've seen combat and know I can perform under that kind of pressure. That is the key part. It's easy to shoot a target. It's a whole different story when you target is trying to kill you as well.

This is the most under estimated thing on these forums.
I own several guns, large and small and can shoot them all. Besides, you don't necessarily need a gun. (Shaun of the Dead) Now for the runners you definitely need a gun, but the stumblers, bash 'em in the head with a baseball bat or crow bar.
