Most effective way to take down large groups of zombies?

What would be the most effective way to kill large groups of zombies attacking your survival HQ? I think that taking gas tanks and spreading them around the battleground then shooting them from above when zombies are around them would be a really great way to do it. Fun, takes out a large amount of enemies within a decent permiter, what more could you ask for?

You rock. Mostly cuz shrapnel is never proven to always hit the brain...

I wish they would make brain aiming shrapnel...

If we are talking about a dream fortress I would say a Fort built with only one way in over a nice deep chasm. Lift up the drawbridge and dance where the zombies can see you. If they are anything like the Max Brooks Zombies they will walk off into the chasm below. :) However to do it right you must wear a Luchador Mask, Manthong, and combat boots only and dance to the Numa Numa song.

The BEST way is to go to a high building which has a central staircase, go up onto the roof and build a platform which a zombie could not climb

no go downstairs and make noise etc to get the horde coming your way, go up onto the roof and get up onto your platform. The zombies will follow you up onto the roof, as more and more zombies push onto the roof, the zombies already up there will be pushed off the edge and plumet to their death (again), while you sit on your platform and have a rest!

by using an army of hyper-intelligent robots of course...until they become self-aware, then you would do well to bow before your mechanical overlords...

seriously, dont let it happen, if the number of z's become too great to deal with conventionally, then it may be a good time to bug out... quietly, so they don't realize you are gone

My idea of a suvival HQ is a fortified farm/encampment. In the perfect world solar powered farm equipment would be great for tillin the crap outta some zombies. Zombie Proofed of course.

The first thing that popped into my mind was a flame thrower because it would not make too much noise, further attracting the zombies to your location. The best method in my opinion would be to just AVOID having to encounter large amounts of zombies!!!!!!! A fortress is a good idea, just fire proof it or something... I dunno' just don't die trying to mess around with it.

You have to remember that a lot of artillery is designed to use shrapnel to kill people, shrapnel isn't going to do anything to a zombie unless you get a lucky hit on the head.

depends. Will your base easily catch fire? If not, molitov cocktails are cheap, easy to make, and usually readily available. However, flesh burns for quit a while, so make sure you can put out the fires you don't want there.

No one has grenades lying around, and if you do the chances of the shrapnel taking out a zombies head is not likely, so not very useful.

If you have a strong enough vehicle to mow them all down, go for it. But if you don't have the power then prepare to be dragged out of the windows and have a very painful death.

I have an aluminum hockey stick with a removable end that I plan on strapping a knife to. With it I can slowing but safely lean out my window and spear them one at a time. It will take a while, but it's better than being burned and/or eaten alive.

A rocket launcher isn't going to do anything. Anti-tank rounds will only do damage to the one zombie the round hits (if you even it one) and even then, due to the nature of the rounds it will most likely pass straight through the zombie. The chances of getting a headshot is virtually impossible and a waste of your time.

get a bunch of water guns and fill them with gas and spray them into the crowd and then throw a match and watch them burn.
