If there is a shipping company in your area and you have acess to somone who can drive heavy trucks stealing the trailors and using them to wall of a farm may be a good idea.just use som jacks or a backhoe to tip them on their sides. If your in a home depot most have a garden center.take all soil and seeds/plant to thr roof and once the building is secure make a garden. If your in a cold climate use the materials inside to make greenhouses.it may not supply all the food you need but will extend the time you can hold out.also the toil of farmwork will help keep people ocupied.
and that is why i think you have a higher chance of surviving in a heavily infested area.
Well i am from a pretty secludded town good or bad depending on how you look at it. But for sure i would have my 22. and a small side arm i have a hipoint 9 so since i have it i'd bring it. Also if all the stores werent pillaged yet i would grab as many walkietalkie type radios as possibe, ammo and a camle pack bag for water. Some water purifaction tablets, and salt tablets so even if i cant get to water i can stay hydrated for longer, deffinitly grab a good hatch so i can open locked doors and do some hand to hand combat as a last resort. I live near The Rocky Moutains so i would head up hills and lay low as long as possible. As for food i am not to worried being an outdoors man i can live off the land for a long time with little or know weapons. Also id grab my Army Shovel the small collapseable ones easy to carry and light wait. And rope, why rope you ask? When have you ever been camping and not needed rope for something, Use it for shelter, hanging clothes, traps, rope is very usefull. But other than that i wouldnt take very much, to much gear makes traveling fast hard and makes you tired, so only the essentials for me and all of the supplies listed i already have so this guy is ready before the out-break!! p.s. i am super pumped i found this site so if anybody ever wants to have an intelligent conversation hit me up.
Possibly the best plan in the thread, the only thing I would change is, instead of rope, I would say paracord. This plan is great, you're not out to win the war against the undead, you're trying to survive and doing it intelligently.
My friends ask me that question on a regular basis. And this is what we've agreed each of us would do if/when Z-day occurs.

I will get in my fathers tank of a van, drive to the Conn. Gun Exchange store not 1/2 a mile from my house, and load all guns and ammunition into the back. Then, I'd quickly go to my friends houses, and shove them in the back of the van. Next, we'd head to Big Y (again, less then 1/4 of a mile away), and begin to brace the windows and doors. My friend Sam (aka Lord Sheogorath) would grab everything that isn't nailed down at his house, and would meet up with the rest of us at Big Y. From there, we'd compleatly barricade ourselves inside, making sure that the doors and windows were not going anywhere any time soon. We'd then try and use the portable 2way radio that Sam grabed from his house to make contact with any survivors/people that could get us some place relatively safe.
For food, we'd eat the perishables first, starting with the meats and vegitables, then move on to fruits, possibly sun dried on the roof. After those were gone, we'd move on to the canned foods. All in all, we'd probably have enough food to last us a good 2 months for perishables, and at least another 5 for non-perishables, and that's unrationed. If we were to ration the non-perishables, we could probably make it last for up to 7 months. If it had been 9 months, and we hadn't made contact with any other survivors, odds are we were the last 8 people alive that weren't zombies, and I don't know what would happen from there.
As far as water goes, we'd have a good five months supply of bottled water, plus numerous ammounts of other, less healthy drinks. (soda, lemonade, juice, etc.) but being that water is the most important, we'd try to gather as much as we could. And that means NO TOILETS! You can EWWW!!! and GROSS!!! all that you want, water is water, and when your in a survival situation, you really dont give a damn where something comes from. I'd say we could use the water fountains, but odds are that they wouldn't work, because they use electricity to pump the water through the pipes, and toilets just use air and gravity.
Due to the lack of availible toilets, we'd probably have to use adult diapers to answer our "calls of nature." Once again, you really dont give a f**k when your in a survival situation. These would be disposed of by going up onto the roof of Big Y, and throwing them off into the parking lot/road as far as possible. (Plus you have to admit, hitting a zombie in the head with a used diaper would be pretty funny.)
As you should be able to see, we've got this down to the letter, and have a couple of contingency plans for if/when things take an unexpected turn. I'd post those, but then I think I'd take up way too much space on the page.
justa as an added plan, you might want to consider stealing a large water carrying truck. that way, youve got a good supply of water.

also, try to get ahold of seeds and some crop land.

your gonna need it if its a long outbreak.
Thought of that, but then I checked on google maps, and the nearest place that would have a loaded water-tanker is about 10 miles away. Thats a total of 20 zombie infested miles that I don't think a Mr. Handyman Van can take. Sure its big, heavy, and perfect for running over zombies, but the sides are not that durable. It's good for short range expiditions, but nothing over 7 or 8 miles round trip. And there is no crop land in Monroe. I've seen the entire town, and we're basicly built on either an underground river (residential half) or a giant slab of rock (business half) The soil around here isn't good to grow much, but apparently strawberries love it here. But just strawberries won't support 8 older teens for long. Btw, that was one of the contingency plans for if we ran out of water for some reason.
haha. you could make strawberry grenades.

aaaa.....im sorry. natural stupidity leaking.

try growing things on the roofs. thats a good place for crops.
As a former infantrymen one thing you have to consider when packing is weight ratios. If you are carrying more than 1/3 your own body weight, it will tax your body much much faster and increase youre chance of injury. The last thing you want is a leg or foot fracture or worse. Also the more you carry the more energy you consume meaning more water and food intake.
I'm glad someone else can appreciate what it's like to carry a full combat load. So many people have huge lists of gear they think they need without considering just how heavy that stuff really is.
i agree. people, you have to realize that in combat situations, all your planning counts for shit biscuits. half the time, youll be going with what you have accesable. if youve ever been in a real fight, youd know that almost all plans are for shit once the enemy begins. the only thing you can rely to be constant is the fact that your enemy wont be shooting back at you if its a zombie.
I agree, when ever I make plans for anything they always got to shit.
