My personal choices.

Machete-
Pros: Broad blade made for cutting heavy tree limbs. Blade is painted black, this helps to avoid giving away your position with a light reflection. Can easily be sharpened. Durable, light, and simple to use.
Cons: Some are short, making you get closer then you might like. An unexperienced user may hurt themselves with it.

Crossbow-
Pros: Quiet, yet powerful enough to penetrate the skull. Modifications can be made to the ammunition to address different situations. Ammunition can be loaded in magazines and is easy to fashion from everyday materials. Scopes and lasers can be applied for increased accuracy. Light.
Cons: Distance, although it is a ranged weapon, you aren't hitting a Zed from 300 yards away with it. The loading mechanism may be complicated to an unexperienced user.

One thing to remember when choosing your weapon to fight the undead, killing isn't always as important as slowing them down. Removing limbs, knocking them over, or damaging their senses can be equally effective in escaping them.
Also the fact that a crossbow bolt if given the chance to remove it from a corpse can be reused!

My own personal picks for weaponry would be a Round point sledge hammer, good for cracking into skulls and reaching the brain, plus it doesn't have the same rough friction on your hands as the crowbar does. Less blisters and less shock as well; thus far more use in the lines of offense.

Ranged would be anything I can get my hands on. For ordinary everyday people like me who don't own a gun and probably wouldn't be able to find one easy.. Anything really that would cause damage. Rocks, guns, bow & arrow etc etc.

The reality is, if there is ever an outbreak most of us WON'T be prepared in the ways of defense. So good ol' human ingenuity will play the role of survival for most of us that remember to keep our wits in stressful situations.
yea the sledge hammer would do great but so would a big piece of wood.
ummm and they can be made, if you have enough skill. but if you wanna pull your bolt out of that stinking corpse, go ahead...
Another good weapon is this.
A hunk of wood like a thick branch or a piece of lumber
Pros: it is heavy and dense and can probably kill a zombie with a good blow to the head. It can also be found anywhere where there is trees.
Cons: it is heavy (nvm about the splinters just wrap a piece of cloth around the log and no splinters)
It sometimes takes a while to get it off the tree.
It'll break.

Fast.
no i mean a real thick branch they hurt alot. something like this like a baseball bat but way harder and easier to find :P (lol the one in the pick is also way too big just shrink it a bit :P)
havent you ever tried to wack someone with a thick tree branch? they hurt like hell and we were just playing so if you swung it harder im pretty sure it can kill it also has spikes (well sorta) Where all the little branches go if you cut the branches off you got a studded (or spiked if you sharpened the studs) Zombie killing machine
And also if it breaks you can then have a sharp pointy stick XD even better for zombie killing lol tree branches rulez XD
Cooking Knives can also be your friend.
Pros: It can be found anywhere where there are houses. They are extremely plentiful. They last a pretty long time. They are stainless XD and they can be thrown.
Cons: not too good at close range combat because of the short blades.
I tried throwing some kitchen knives when I was a kid and all I got was a nice scar for it, thanks but not thanks. I prefer skull crushing to hoping that my steak knife will somehow penetrate the skull or be on target enough to go into the eyesocket for a kill shot...
Id say a bb sniper rifle would do the job.
Pros: They hurt and can wound regular humans really well and since zombies are decaying flesh the bb bullets should go right through (but it depends on the type of bb bullets you use). They are plentiful.
Cons: You have to hit em in the eye to kill em because bb bullets cant go through bone. and the eye is only about 1 inch long. Not good to use at close range because most bb guns are plastic and well your screwed.
