I would stretch my remaining food out by supplementing it with wild game. I plan on only packing 3 days worth of food (likely MRE's or the like) and using a slingshot for small game...

well living in jersey the one thing we have an abundance of is squirrels i already have a simple live trap that i made out scrap i had lying around. i know it works because on several occasions i've had to use it to catch my cat that had gotten out. also while rare i have seen dear roaming around, once on my neighbors yard. and there are wild turkeys around too. also don't you think with the human populist all but gone animals normally kept away will come back into the city's and such. kinda like in i am legend. also for water there's a glen that cuts right through my town (my towns even named after it) only about a mile away from my house so waters pretty much covered even though i have a lot stockpiled already. alos i'm not sure but i think there's a community vegetable garden over on the next block right past the hospital.

if you are planning on hunkering down in the Jerz, with 8 MIL people in the state, another 8-9 MIL in NYC and another couple MIL in Philly, me thinks you are toast.
And no, I think the Z's will eat animals as well as humans. As to the community garden over by the hospital? It will be trampled down from all the Z's from the hospital comin' to get you. LOL
Best to head West and have a plan as to where you'd hole up over there.

actually you bring up a good point, are these that traditional Romero type zombies that eat anything that's alive or are these the dawn of the dead remake zombies that only go after humans. and perhaps having so many people wil actualy help me in the begining. even though i lvie in jersey i'm in a small subard between two city's. so basically no mater which way the zombie horde comes they will quickly go through my town to one of the much bigger city's. if i hunker down and stay quite they should go almost right past me. assuming these zombies function under the realistic concept of only being attracted by noise and movement and not the unrealistic ability to track down even the lone human from nearly a mile away. as for the garden i think it has a fence around it so unless some one is standing in it when the zombies attack or run through it with a mob of zombies chasing them. the zombies notoriously poor motor skills should insure the vast majority remain outside of it. leaving it un-trampled.
