Ok we all have to get around after the outbreak. What is the best mode of transportation. For me, I pick a riding lawn mower. Going to die anyway, might as well cut some grass. lol
When all things are said in done, the options are endless, but my concern is terrain. It'd be nice and well to go with a giant dump truck or a deuce-and-a-half, but honestly, they're rather bulky, and considering alot of travel, if you're bright, will be on the back grounds, and less established paths, you'll want a smaller, more efficient vehicle.
My argument goes in favor of both gas drinking vehicles, and those quieter bastards, such as a bicycle, or good ol' one and two in the boots...
Personally I would say a 4.0 ltr Jeep wrangler if you want to go with an actual vehicle. 4x4 drive, definite storage for one or two people's supplies, and it goes a lot faster than a bike, but the bike..
It has it's own draw backs, but even greater advantages. You're the gas, so until you become exhausted, which a person does over time, with lack of supplies, food and water, as well as carrying supplies, it'll do you good. and as some argue its much easier to get through the eventual traffic jams and roadblocks. That's inarguable. But if you stay on main highways, you're just asking for trouble.
Then again you have good ol one-and-two at the boot. They'll take you a long way, but in the end they'll fail you eventually. Supply loads and all that jazz after all get heavy on your shoulders.... But hey, if the indians and our dead neanderthal ancestors can do it for generations, I'm sure we can pull it off too.
I know a deuces are made for back roads, but they're to big.
I'd rather have a smaller lighter vehicle that can maneuver through more opsticals. "...giant dump truck or a deuce-and-a-half, but honestly, they're rather BULKY..."
Ok, since I have moved away from the city and out into the country, I prefer horses. They are best for moving between farms, especially through rocky fields offroad, and are fast, agile and relatively quiet. I use cars and pick ups too, but I like having the extra edge of animal instincts with the horses. I've only had a horse spook twice, and guess what? Hooves are a pretty effective weapon when it comes to smashing zombie skulls. However, since I'm so much more "out in the open" I always carry a firearm and plenty of ammo and I always bring the dogs too. Probably not for everyone, but in my situation, it works for me.
The zombie Survival Guide suggests a dirt bike since roads will be difficult to navigate but fuel is still an issue. I'm thinking that unless you are plowing through hoards of zombies you don't need anything huge. If you have a base of operations and can keep a low profile a horse might not be a bad idea. That is only the case if zombies are speradic and you are in a lower population area which is my idea location for surviving an attack. I don't care what mode of transportation you have there is no chance if you are stuck in a major city with millions of zombies.
