Well I was curious as to where people plan to make their stongholds. A two-story house, a store, etc.

Personally I have an interesting new one that I have never heard of before in mind. One that I just recently thought of while just driving in town was a parking garage. It is made of some solid reinforced concrete. The top floor could be modified to be made into a farm for your crops, contain a greenhouse, and a place for solar panels, as well as a few lookout posts. The other floors could be the barracks, supplies, etc. The ramp leading into the garage could be blockaded with vehicles, or just destroyed, although it is the harder of the two but safer. You could also enclose exposed floors from the weather with wood and other construction materials.

All in all it wouldn't be too hard to fortify one of these badboys into a zombie proof fortress in my mind. I'm interested in hearing your comments, and also your other ideas for a stronghold.

the hardest thing would be the top soil to the top level. next it the car sizes openings in the concrete.
other than that good place.
Unfortunately any modification you make to improve the livable of this structure would be obviously of a post zombie apocalypses period and would draw the unwanted attention of government forces or raiders. I think your better off taking a building that’s already set-up for habitation. This would also free up more man hours from building/refitting for other survival related tasks.
Well i live in Galveston Texas, so there are literally hundreds of beach houses within a few miles. I own one myself. So ill head there, it has a sea water purification pump and a generator and propane heating etc. All i have to do is destroy the stairs and and im safe. The house is on Hurricane grade stilts. and the beach will provide water for purifying and fish for eating.
just think "isolation" and "privacy" for a fortress, if you build it in a hard to access (on foot) area the zeds cant get you (as long as they cant drive)
My plan is to go to a camp that i know of, there are a couple buildings that i have in mind. first is the store house, the base is a reinforced concrete 4 bay garage, and the upper is a 2 story wooden barn about 5 feet off the ground. with a chain link fence running about 100ft out around most of the building. in the garage is well a small home depot, a couple vehicles, up top there are many supplies, canvas, hand tools, stacks of camping equipment, and a gun safe holding around 30 .22 and about 10 12 gauge shot guns, with some ammo. the place has it's own water tower and well pump. there are a several hundred gallons of gas stored there, and a food supply that can last a small group 15-20 for a few months.
I'm thinking, with the right supplies and skillholders, a sturdy treehouse would make a nice 'fortress' for awhile. Zeds can't climb, and you've got the upper hand from possible bandits.
But in a tree house if the zombies surround it how would you get out? Also wouldn't the bandits just cut the tree down?
yeah and what if shaq and yoa ming zombies show up, then you're screwed.
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHA...
yeah, and do you have the skill to build a treehouse? its harder than it looks you would need to find nails, planks, drills ex. also the noise will attract alot of zombies and they could swarm before you have the chance to builld it. And the raiders. Burn the tree? cut down the tree? and once your surrounded by zombies because thier going to lock on your position sooner or later. your trapped up thier until you starve. Or shoot yourself witchever suits you better.
"Zeds can't climb" Depends on the style of zombie/infected that you're facing.
How about below ground, like the sewers, you'll be out of sight and can walk around the city underground unnoticed and have to make sure that most of the manholes get sealed. You'll just have to do without sunlight and cleanliness.
