This is TRUE and happening now in SoCo.

Yesterday all communication service, save for satellite (which I am using) was knocked out in the San Luis Valley, an 8,000 square mile area, affecting towns in Colorado and New Mexico.

Businesses shut down early as their credit card machines no longer worked and ATMs were rendered useless.  Land lines are sketchy, sometimes working for LOCAL CALLS only.

CELL PHONES ARE DEAD!  I get a signal on mine showing 3G with 3-4 bars, but the calls do not go through.  We noticed that less stations are available on AM / FM radio stations.

A friend who works for the local telco says it may be DAYS before they figure out how to fix it.  How the heck does a "glitch" in the land line affect CELL PHONES?????

None of this has been reported by any news, that I can find, including the Denver Post.

This occurs the day after the meteor showers that took place on Friday the 13th. Could it be caused by EMP's from the meteors?

We have gone to Orange alert at the ranch and are stockpiling gas right now as the local gas stations gas pumps will accept credit cards because they use a different type of communication according to the mgr.

We searched the web and found out that earlier this month, an area in Kentucky was without CELL PHONES for several days.  Is the government preparing for a rolling black out of communications, testing rural areas FIRST to see their reactions, before they hit the big cities?  Hopefully you are all aware of the Kill Bill currently in Congress where the Feds are pushing for a "kill the internet access" should the Fed deem it necessary to "turn off" communication (your dial up, your smart phone, your dsl, your ATM & Credit cards (which most still dial in to the cc companies), etc  should they feel "the U.S. internet is threatened) in some way.

Is anyone else out there experiencing this or has experienced it?  COMMENTS???  If this was permanent, what would YOU do?

I'll be monitoring. Nothing on the net as of yet.
thanks Prime
Where is this again?
i want to look into this, i know it may sound crazy but i am looking fwd to the day when something out of the ordinary happens. i want the thrill.
Anyways, anymore info on this would be great tori.
Southern Colorado - the explanation was that a fiberoptics cable was cut by a local farmer who was putting in a new fence.

Ok, I can understand that affecting LAND lines, but how the heck does that affect CELL phones?

They eventually got it repaired and the land lines were up the next day. It took until late yesterday to get cell service back on and even then, this am (Tues) it is bleeping in and out and even my cell phone repeater (a very high end Wilson) isn't pulling in the way it should.

I have ATT with 3G out here, and it wasn't the provider. I contacted them and they said they had no problems in the area and I was the first to report it.

Most people out here use the local telco for cell, Alltel or Verizon. The local telco wireless doesn't work outside of the Valley so you have to bundle with national carrier if you want "out of region" service. They don't support smart phones either.

That still doesn't explain why CELLS were affected by fiberoptics though.
Uh Huh, blame it on a farmer.
Farmers and drunks, Prime, LOL. Either a farmer is digging or rams something with a tractor or a drunk takes out a telephone pole, a transformer, or this the lineman while he just "happens" to be up in a cherry picker or something and then ends up hanging on the wires, taking out the entire city
Interesting, I've had trouble connecting to several US sites in the last day or so
Seems like the meteorites shower causing radiations and as the results causes the battered telecommunication systems there. But, there are no strange things happened besides the dead communication, aren't they ? (hopefully)
I hope you're fine and still manage to do daily activities there, Lori... Bye ... :-)
Ok I live in southern cali and I literally have experienced none of that sorry....my internet, phone which is also att, and credit cards have been working just fine as well as my friends and fam and we are all located from san diego to santa barbara so if somthing were to be happening like that i would know about it, but my guns are always loaded just in case. LOL maybe zombies are smart and they figured out how to give our technology viruses or Maybe your service just sucks
travis, it hasn't been happening in metro areas, just rual areas - att said they weren't having a problem with their services.
well, I do live in THE MYSTERIOUS VALLEY, where we have UFO sightings, cattle and animal mutaliations, sacred MT. BLANCA and oh yeah, a 'vortex' that rivals Sedona's LOL
