I'm going to assume that leather is held in rather high esteem by the Zombie-Hunting community for it's ability to deflect and defeat the bite force of a human being turned undead. It's a good start, but I'm curious if there's any way to improve a leather jacket or any armor some of us have in mind.

What would your armor set be and how could you possibly improve it?
Any little advantage you can get might just go a long way to saving your ass from eternal undeadliness.

Personally, I'd be wearing my normal steel toed boots I wear on a daily basis. They've good support, sturdy, hold up to all kinds of abuse and can deliver a punishing kick if used correctly. I haven't come up with a good way to improve upon this design as of yet...
Next, cargo-pants if only for the added storage space. I've been hearing that duct-tape might be a good idea to wrap around your extremities to keep nosy undead hands off of you. are there any ideas on how to improve pants?

Now I know zombies don't fire guns *most of the time* but a ballistics vest, if one can be acquired, would be useful against Raiders and possibly the Military. If at all possible, finding one with a built-in neck guard would always be a plus.
Over the vest I'd have my army-style canvas jacket. It has a lot of pockets for storage of ammunition, cigarettes, lighters, etc. and so far my canvas jacket has stood up to a lot of abuse without tearing.
Any possible way to improve the jacket?

I'd throw in some elbow and knee pads for good measure, a sturdy pair of gloves for hand protection and though it might sound strange, a painter's mask/gas mask in the event you stumble across some noxious chems/dead bodies.
Toss in a pair of goggles and I'm set.

So, now that you know my general armor layout, what are some of yours and how could you improve upon current designs with readily available and easily accessible materials?

i wasnt really worried about zeds getting to me, i was talking about all the animals running wild after most people are gone, animals are a lot faster
you're an idiot of you are going to use that as a valid excuse. shit happens sometimes. if everything went according to plan you might get away with what you suggest. but you're implying that everything should go according to plan in a situation where it's obvious nothing has gone right (how else will society have fallen?)

either way, i think your attitude towards the subject is both amatuer and overbearingly arrogant towards the situation at hand.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Calling people an idiot doesn't make you any better.
a lot of people are talking about bandannas to protect against splatter but a better idea is a under armor t-shirt situated so that the neck hole is over your face and then tie the sleeves around ur head. much more stable and secure then a bandanna and it keeps the sun off ur neck while being breathable

*note- under armor is just for breath ability for hot climates but i thicker t would be great for cold climates to help keep warm. plus its really easy to find t shirts and this will tie back hair and if you cut off half of the sleeve ur knot will be smaller

under armor burns surprisingly well, thats why its being banned from the military
There a different types of dry-wick used to keep you warm in cold weather. I'm from Oregon, so I own both types. Secondly, why doesn't anyone think of surgical masks or even just simple masks for construction?
What Luis Sipher said:

you don't really need full body riot armor to survive a zombie apocalypse, just your brains and tight fitting clothing.

me personally I use canvas ankle gators covering military boots, bite resistant and maneuverable to ware. worse way to go is being bitten on the ankle. of course some of the "armor" most of you guys are mentioning are good to have because of what they are used for, but honestly, as like I've said with weapons, use what your familiar with.

as for chain mail I think a vest made made out of the same material of sharkbite suits would be handy to have but then again, weight is an issue.

overall, its a matter of what your doing, if your going toe-to-toe with the zeds, you'll need all the proctection you can find, if your constantly keeping your distance and on the move, leave the heavy armor behind, lighter you are the better.
well im just a poor boy with no military conections so.........I would cut down thick card bboard bend it to shape and add a couple layers of duct tape around it .dont get no lighter and will defenitly stop a bite. not much use to disgruntled suvivors except maybe for a laugh
WHATEVER WORKS MAN. though i doubt that would hold long....

as for me:: the above picture is an old photo of mine. i've completely upgraded everything, including the ak-47. in that picture is shown my 5.11 rip stop tactical pants with neoprene knee inserts. there is a full leather motorcycle jacket, i have on a long sleeve canvas shirt, and as shown, there are riot police shin and forearm guards.

since this photo, i have added a pair of Damascus Nitro kevlar hard knuckle gloves, removed the leather jacket, and riot gear. i have kept the left forearm riot guard though, to act as an impromptu shield. the jacket and shinguards simply interfered with my ability to move quickly . i wear a pair of Brahma steel toe, steel shank leather combat boots every day.

i will be upgrading my tactical vest to a MOLLE plate carrier soon.
Rather than that, put on you denim clothing and duct tape the stuff directly to it.
