I'm going to assume that leather is held in rather high esteem by the Zombie-Hunting community for it's ability to deflect and defeat the bite force of a human being turned undead. It's a good start, but I'm curious if there's any way to improve a leather jacket or any armor some of us have in mind.

What would your armor set be and how could you possibly improve it?
Any little advantage you can get might just go a long way to saving your ass from eternal undeadliness.

Personally, I'd be wearing my normal steel toed boots I wear on a daily basis. They've good support, sturdy, hold up to all kinds of abuse and can deliver a punishing kick if used correctly. I haven't come up with a good way to improve upon this design as of yet...
Next, cargo-pants if only for the added storage space. I've been hearing that duct-tape might be a good idea to wrap around your extremities to keep nosy undead hands off of you. are there any ideas on how to improve pants?

Now I know zombies don't fire guns *most of the time* but a ballistics vest, if one can be acquired, would be useful against Raiders and possibly the Military. If at all possible, finding one with a built-in neck guard would always be a plus.
Over the vest I'd have my army-style canvas jacket. It has a lot of pockets for storage of ammunition, cigarettes, lighters, etc. and so far my canvas jacket has stood up to a lot of abuse without tearing.
Any possible way to improve the jacket?

I'd throw in some elbow and knee pads for good measure, a sturdy pair of gloves for hand protection and though it might sound strange, a painter's mask/gas mask in the event you stumble across some noxious chems/dead bodies.
Toss in a pair of goggles and I'm set.

So, now that you know my general armor layout, what are some of yours and how could you improve upon current designs with readily available and easily accessible materials?

I would say biker gear is perfect, its cheap, flexible, made of kevlar (bite proof) and totally covers your whole body
I agree. The chest armour and the good shin pads.

Also paintball gloves or those gloves the cops use that are puncture-proof.
kevlar football gloves or you could get those auto shop kevlar gauntlets, with forearm protection.
hard to find and takes a while to get used to wearing, but chainmail would definitely hold off a bite. and most chainmail shirts come with a hood to protect the neck and back of the head
But standard chainmail armor can add 25-35 pounds to your weight, let alone additional pieces. Kevlar would be most effective. But when dealing with Zombies, I believe the most effective equipment would be more like soft foam paintball type armor. They may be able to bite the foam, but it would take repeated biting to get through it. Plus alot of this armor has alot of storage capacity, and neck guards.
sigh gloves kevlar arm, neak and leag pads NO HELMIT if u tern in to one stoping u will be hard
good walking boots AND REMBER zombies grab>pull>bite so ware tigt tings and unlike me have VERY short hear BUT MOST IMPORTANT dont get hope full dont walk in to a hord and tink you are safe
all the armor in the world cant protet u from that stupidnes stay back and fire
kevlar is ligt flexable spead is your best qulaty dont smoke zombies will see you a kilometr away
ps my spelling sucks
I agree with laz... biker gear is an excellent idea

of couse, when thinking of these items, one must think of where you are most likely to get bit... usually the extremities...

ergo, my suggested load out would be, mid calf- knee high leather work boots, Heavy leather gloves ( although that makes you considerably less dextrious), what I would try to do would be to take an old jacket and make kevlar-like inserts that fit my forearms and lateral biceps (large enough to protect me, but small enough as to not impede mobility)... this can be done by either cannibalizing existing equipment that is found, or maybe fashioning one out of some other easily found material (plastic or wood...provided you have the tools and skills to fashion something like that)

can be done one of two ways (still carryin on about the inserts), by sewing an additional pocket onto your jacket for that purpose... or by rigging them with some kind of strap... leather, heavy cloth, heavy duty vecro, et cetra...

well, tahats my piece....may not be pretty...but hey, if it works
I'm taking my bf's idea, take hard leather and put New Zealand re-enforced wool (stab resistant and slash proof) underneath. take a Full Cranium helmet and bite protection collar (from dog trainers) for head protection and some big leather boots for you feet. then some leather gloves.
I'd use a mix of biker leather and hardware store symetry. Take some table saw blades and halve them. Secure with metal o-rings to legs and arms. Jigsaw blades on fingers. My best though is a biker armor chest piece, leather over, and a suicide bomber vest for a "last stand". Never know, you may live through it.
I would start with my leather jacket. It's brand-new, and very resistant to biting (believe me, i tried). To improve upon this I could line the shoulders and other parts with cardboard or extra padding. I could even take an old leather jacket (if you can spare to do this, I certainly do) and cut out a hood that wraps around your neck as well, to protect from biting.

Knee pads and elbow pads would be ideal if you are in a spot where falling over/tripping can be expected. Wrist guards too, if you can find some.

Leather gloves would also be nice, if you can find the kind issued in the military (leather, but not too thick like most gloves). That way, you don't have bones and whatnot cutting up your hands and infecting you.

A gas mask/some sort of face protecting is a great idea, zombie splatter is likely, especially with melee weapons. Sunglasses to go with it will also do nicely, as they cover the eyes and provide shading to aid your vision in the sunlight.

For pants, I would try and find something skinny, yet lots of pockets. If nothing like that is available, cargo pants and duct tape/wire will do fine.

For footwear, I'd wear my normal steel-toed boots.
Spikes are only useful if they are able to be stabbed into the zombies' brain. If you put them on everything, you have to worry about them getting hung on everything, or the lack of comfort when you're trying to rest. Trust me, I used to wear Tripp pants all of the time, I had to deal with these things (and those have just small spikes).

Besides, zombies aren't exactly known for feeling pain, so you'll only succeed in getting yourself killed. Plus the spikes will become a breeding ground for bacteria since they won't be easy to clean since they'll be all over, so you'll probably catch some sort of major illness after a while...
WOW! Really?!? Where do you get this stuff? It doesn't matter how much you destroy the body...If you don't destroy the brain, they still keep coming. Also, if you feel like running at a group of zombies, go right ahead. It sounds like something that would go great in a zombie comedy aimed to describe WHAT NOT TO DO...
