What are the benefits/drawbacks of using military forces in the zombie infections? What would you apply/where would you apply it /and how do you think it would turn out? You can use any field(artillery/close air support/special operations/armor/etc.) Be vivid and creative in your own plan to topple the Undead.

I don't think it would take long for the military to accept the enemy in front of them. Adapting to the threat could be a real challenge. In the US, most of our armed service members are not full-time infantrymen and women. All may receive some training in this role. However, most spend the bulk of their time in other roles.

If commanders can figure out how to the adapt the military it has to combat the threat quickly, it might not go so bad. However, if the situation requires a new military (a major zombie infestation), anyone hoping for the military to save them will probably die waiting.

the biggest problem really is that the current the armed forces throughout the world (with the exception of maybe Korea) are all geared towards fighting smaller guerilla forces of human combatants, with backup contingency plans for full-scale national warfare. as fighting the living dead would require all new munitions for artillery, CAS, and most mechanized segments to be effective in a strategic sense, and as fighting an enemy with literally no organization and no logistics is something that has never been done before in the modern world on a large scale, it would certainly take a long time for the armed forces as a whole to rearm and adapt to fighting zombies. on a smaller scale, however, i'm pretty certain that even something as big as a regiment could be used effectively to counteract an outbreak (if i were in command though i'd probably limit my strike force to about two platoons).

You make some very good points, particularly about how armies around the world are geared toward fighting smaller guerilla forces. Even in the US, we train to apply our resources increasingly against insurgents and terrorists. We also focus a lot on peacekeeping and stability.

I also agree with you the military would probably be rather effective at containing a small or moderate outbreak.

However, I'm not so sure fighting zombies, even in a major infestation, would require a new class of munitions. New weapons make killing an enemy more efficient. But quantity can still be efficient if applied appropriately. For example, artillery could slow down a zombie advance if deployed in the right number and stockpiles of ammo. The zombies won't die, but they could be easier to fight if they are all maimed

As you said though, it would take time to adapt, even if the force as a whole learn how to be more effective with what they have.

Well, First of all you would not use marines against hordes of zombies (you shoot em, but not all may stay down) and you got probabilities of losing big percent of your ops, you can use them in roofs, helicopters, maybe tanks and high-placed outposts. Because in the ground the chances are of losing and gettin infected. Units in outposts can rescue people and they can go out to seek provitions. What I am saying is that if the outbreak is ina  city it can be difficult to contain , you can use the army to block it and for ofensive. Then after withdrawing the rescued people may be you can drop some bombs maybe napalm .. but don`t go out and shoot thr undead this is no videogame...and if you die ..
