I think older. Newer ones can jam easily, plus we know for certain the older one's power and durability.

You do realize that the AK47 is overrated right? Noted, it is a decent weapon, but full/semi auto is almost never a good option, plus the kick is unberable after prolonged use for some people, and u also have to think of the ability of the gun.
There is only one major problem here. One yes full auto is not good it sprays all over. Two the kick wont count becuase many people wont be sitting on the roof for 6 hours spraying full auto into a hord. Last the AK-47 is one of the most common guns in the world.
The AK is 1 of the most common guns in the world but not in the united states your more likely to find a M4 or AR15 in the U.S. than an AK. Also they are very reliable but not as reliable as my 12 gauge. People dont realize the effectiveness of a shotgun. you can put slugs in them and hit targets at 100 yards or you can put in some 00 buck and blow a zombie to pieces at 25 yards. Please people before you start saying guns that you have seen in a movie or game, think about what your talking about. Not to mention when you magazine runs dry on ur big bad AK 47 your going to have to load that 30 round clip 1 by 1 which will take a long time. Id take my mossberg 590A1 over an AK everyday of the week for killing z's
Umm... I think any gun owner in existence who has a gun that uses clips would have more than one magazine in their possession.
First of all any1 who owns a gun or any real gun owner doesnt call them clips...they are called magazines and it still defeats the purpose ok so say you have 2, 3, 4 clips how ever many you have eventually they are all going to need to be reloaded 1 by 1 and if that happens at a time when you need them your screwed. Even if you have extra mags loaded if the situation is that bad you may use them all and if that happens its going to take you a good 5 minutes to load them back up, and 5 minutes while being attacked is a long time. Your thinking short term, its not a movie where the good guy always has a freshly loaded magazine in his back pocket all the time....magazines run out and if it happens at a time when you need it most your screwed. Where as for my shotgun you can put 25 round drums in it or load 8 into the magazine tube and be ready to shoot within seconds also you can just put 1 in the chamber as your loading incase they are getting close...not to mention I wont need a melee weapon other than my shotgun since it has a bayonet on it the gun is 41 inches without the 8 inch bayonet so it would defenately keep zombies at bay.
i dont mean to be insulting but thats kind of an ignorant post... first off, anyone who is a semi avid gun user knows of and has a good chance of owning a speed loader for their magazine of choice. so instead of the 5 mins it takes to load one, its more like 45 sec to 1 min. also, anyone with moderate to advanced weapon training would carry at least 6-8 extra magazines. now if were talking about military enthusiasts or ex military they may carry many more than that. (being infantry i carried 8 on my chest, 4 on each hip and 8 on the back of my rucksack for whoever was behind me)
secondly, your 25 round drum for your shotgun...it has to weigh quite a bit more than my 50 round magazine for my ar57, which means its harder to preform a speedy mag change with that monster than it is for me and my magazine... i mean lets face it, shotgun rounds weigh more than almost all rifle/pistol rounds unless your talking about a .410
third and finally, any weapon can have a bayonet even if theyre not built with one. all it takes is a little ingenuity, a fairly light melee weapon of some sort, and some duct tape; or you could go all out and tac weld it on in a few places.
but even if you didnt put a bayonet, CQC uses many different methods of melee maneuvers with a rifle, for example my favorite- the butt stock smack. i actually used to own a moisen nagant carbine that had a metal plate on the butt stock for smashing heads. im not sure if it was factory but it was pretty damn awesome.
First off litteraly none of us r ex military and im sure most people on here dont even know what a speed loader is... so your whole if they are military theory doesnt apply to us. Secondly the person I was talking to was like 14 so I doubt he has military experience, also id love to see you hit people with your polymer buttstock of an m4 or any modern assault rifle after a couple hits that thing is going to crack. Ya an old school rifle like a Kahr or M1 garand will do just fine but most modern guns will not with stand much melee use. Also the 1 minute or whatever you said to reload your mags is still about twice the time it would to reload my shotgun not to mention what if your speed loader breaks or you lose it in the confusion all im saying is that in my opion you cant have a better z gun than a 12 gauge it can shoot slugs and buckshot, so you stick to your military training that was used to kill "humans" not "zombies" and ill stick to my methods. Lastly have fun welding or taping a bayonet to your gun when mine has a mount for it...id love to see how long that duct tape holds after its been used a couple times.
actually sonny, there are quite a few people on this site that are ex military and or law enforcement. and if you would pay closer attention you would know i said military enthusiasts too. as for the whole buttstock breaking theory, collapsible-probably but say an m16a2 buttstock kindof doubt it. those polymers are made to be more durable than wood.. and as for your shotgun, i guess your got me there...you can reload a whole eight shells ten seconds faster than i can reload a 50 round magazine. and if you think your shotgun is the only weapon you can open and pop a single in, your mistaken there buddy. finally, i wouldnt tape or weld a bayonet to my weapon because it holds enough ammo to shoot them. have you every stabbed anything with a bayonet? its clumsy and if theyre aware your coming at them theyre probably going to avoid it. not everyone finds it necessary to run around with a pig sticker trying to hit things in the face with it.
Well last time I checked we are talking about zombies and they arent to smart so if your theory on bayonets is that they will be aware and dodge it then I guess that also counts for all melee weapons. Also you have 50 rounds in your drum if your on full auto your going to waste a lot of ammo where as my shotgun I would only have 9 which means i have to make every shot count. Like I said this website is lost zombies not lost soldiers we are talking about warfare with the undead and it is very different then conventional warfare. Not to mention im in california so most assault weapons arent availible to me...thats y my shotgun is my number 1 choice.
Its going to depend on where your located as regards to using a AK 47 and it being the most common rifle. In the United States the most common rifle in use is going to be a stoner based carbine such as the AR 15. Its very true that the AK is the most produced and used rifle around, but its not the most common in the states. Eventhough most gun shops have one or two on the walls, they will have none to few replacement parts for the rifles. 7.62x39mm rounds are common, but not nearly as common as 5.56 nato rounds, or the more common civilized .223 round. If your looking for a bugout weapon in the states to carry you through a apocalyptic situation your best bet is going to be a reliably built AR with the gas piston system, instead of the gas impingment that stone came up with. Their very reliable, and when parts start to wear out you'll have a better chance of finding them than a AK 47....Regardless of how well built a weapons system is they will fail you eventually, and need to be repaired. Im not AK bashing, Im very impressed with AKs. I own one myself, that I love and would trust with my life any day of the week. I have a milled barrel on it, its way more accurate than a stamped AK. I watched Iraq forces disasseble their AK's and clean them with boot laces dipped in motor oil. Their a very hearty weapon, but they too like anything mechanical will eventually fail. Thinking about what weapon is commonly used in your area is a good idea when choosing a weapon.
its one of the lightest recoiling guns ever, its almost never full auto
Frankly, I was thinking more mideval, like a mace or morning star. you can never go wrong with the classics.
