me i think going in the swiss alp's is the place to be i went there in 2009 and it would be amazingly easy to fortify most places as alot of places are up moutians and near trees for fuel and perfect weather during the summer to grow and stock pile food and in the winter due to zombies already being dead and have no warm blood so making them cool blooded they would freaze or become so slow  u could hack their heads of with a pen knife and dont worry since its swisserland theirs pleanty of swiss army knifes to go around

They don't need to breathe so they don't need to swim. They can walk the bottom.
yeah, and then hurricane season comes, you have no fresh water, the mangroves start shredding apart and then the zombies walk up off the beach and you think WTF, cos you didn't think the hurricanes would blow them IN off of other locations.

Never go some place you can't escape from yourself is what I say.
I've given this a lot of thought. I live on the Gulf Coast near some beaches. I have planned as soon as it hits to gather a lot of supplies and head out to my friends boat and take it out of the bay down towards Ft. Morgan beach area. We have a beach house there. Since it is right on the beach it is on stilts in case of flooding and such. We will anchor the boat off shore a bit and keep a smaller boat so we can reach the bigger boat if needed. Once we get everyone in the beach house we will destroy the stairs that lead up to the door and use a rope ladder to get down and back up as needed. It is a flat area surrounding it and not a lot of trees so you can see for miles and it is higher than most houses so it will make a good lookout point. We will use the boat to catch fish so we will have a fresh supply of food and a water distiller so we can use the ocean water to drink. I think it is a fair plan but we will see when the day comes.
My family farm in my home town in Nebraska, it's population 153. Seriously and there's a river that runs around it. Most of the buildings and houses are made of brick and all have basements and cellars, easy to fortify. Fertile land for crops, fish and game for meat. There's snowy winters and even though it's in tornado alley there are hardly any sightings.
even if its unrealistic its within 1 hour of my house and its on an island in the middle of the delaware river
its fort delaware

realistically your two story hose with the stairs broken and barricaded would be the best
There is 3000 people in my local community,, when z day hits i'll have a group of 5 people with me 600 each fair enough odds. First I'd hit the Gun store a block away take it all, then the the hardware store and finally the supermarket. Plenty of mesh(from Trolleys and Hardware store) for fortifications and more stores to suppliment my own. Keep a running tally of the zombies Killed when low numbers move through the districts picking them clean of supplies or stores and survivors, move to the city hole up in a multistory building destroy stairs and make rope ladders mesh from fences to block off the carpark. Make ammo dumps and food on each floor as well as a huge carpool.
You'd better have some guns prior to the SHTF. Some others might gett to that store before you..
I have a .410 shottie, a Anschutz .22 magnum and a Carl Gustaf 2000 .30/06.
and the gunstore attendant is the only one there. He is a friendly but has a large family that lives out of town who he is devoted to so he would grab what he could carry and head. Our local police are not very courageous so the first thing they would do is bugger off to the city or country.
This plan is only basic. If i cant get to the gun store i would spread out through my neighbours (after i shot them if the are zeds or threats) and take what weapons they have to offer (gun nut central)
If it's not to late I'll be evacuate my whole family in a truck or huge vehicles to look for another safer place or shelter.
if not, I'll guess I have to be ready and preparing myself for the worst in my own house (with my family)...
Sadly but "a Must" - to fight, to survive to stand my ground...
And... if I fall before I can escape, I pray to Lord my soul to keep ...
