Basically i have read a couple of different scenarios about what weapon would be best. I am going with a shotgun. Its unmatched all around. The rounds are easy to find and cheap to buy. The shotgun is easy to maintain. Plus it can make a great bludgeoning weapon when ammo is out. It is also easy to re-load. I also like a M-16 type rifle. It holds many rounds in a easy to reload magazine approx 30 rounds. The bullets are easy to make and reload. they have ok stopping power. You are able to send many rounds down range. It has been proven in combat and mostly you can upgrade it.

One must always have a side arm. I prefer a .40 cal pistol. It holds more rounds than a .45 and way more stopping power than a b.s. 9mm. It has stopping power close to a .45 but the drop off to bullet gained ratio is not much so i go with a .40.

I think that if you say "Sniper Rifle" You are truly a retard! Unless you are a trained professional sniper (and I'm guessing you're not) then dont use it. Even with trained snipers who have had this discussion with me have said that they dont think that it has a place in door to door zombie combat survival. Its way too complicated and not feasible. Sniping should be reserved for a fortified position where your distances, bullet drop ratio, elevation, angle of the shot, your rifle 'dope' are standard and known. Then, all you have to do is add in your wind and barometric pressure (depending on the distance). Sniping a head shot on a still target is hard enough then add in all the other variables, next to impossible for the lay-person. See my blog that i wrote in response to an IDIOT who said that he'd use a 'sniper rifle'. I have too much respect for REAL snipers and know enough about it to assume that I can just put the cross hairs on a zack and just pull the trigger. Sniping is NOTHING like in the video games. Get that through your head! Again I am only talking to a small majority on here. The majority of you all have pretty good heads on your shoulders and are smart. You are constantly surprising me with your ideas. I'm basically talking to the pre-pubescent males who play too many video games and seen too many movies.

Oh yeah. You need a primary weapon. If you just have a bat or a crow bar you'll tire yourself out too much too quickly. Its great if thats all you have or if it's your back up weapon but not a primary.

I want to know what you thing about primary weapons, side arms, and reserve weapons and when you should have them or have them all around or with you. What do you think?

A crossbow or compound bow is good for stealth, whether dealing with ghouls or raiders.
I could see that as far as just stealth goes. They pack one hell of a punch and a good one even an 'ok' one will definitely pierce the skull and cavitate the brain. But (depending on how zombies actually hunt/find humans weather by smell or sight) if one catches wind of you, moans, now all stealth is compromised. You might not be seen but they'll know your there. I could see that though. I just appreciate that you presented your case intelligently. It may not be my favorite, but i see and respect your point.
They'd have some use but not as a primary weapon unless it's all you've got.
Have you ever used an M-16? Cleaned it out? Assembled it? Used a condom to keep sh*t from getting in the barrel? Sometimes literally? Even the A2 model is second-class.
I would use an REC7, mainly because it's easy to maintain and is built to the AR configuration, meaning that you can use it at close or long range. As a sidearm I would choose a .44 Desert Eagle. After all, the way I'm planning on surviving, the main issue will not be zombies but bandits/raiders.
A good reserve weapon is a combat knife. I know that most of you won't agree, but if it is long enough, has a "knuckleduster" handle, a pommel nut, and is held point down, it can become a terrifying weapon.
I totally agree about the sniper rifle comment, and the Halogen bar is a great tool, I spent 8 years in the Navy as MP and used it more times then I can count on doors and ship hatchs. As far as weapons my Primary would be a M-4,Side arm-M-92,Reserve would be a Halogen bar, Metal Bat,shotgun, and a M-14.
My ideal setup would be a Bull-pup style, low caliber assault rifle, such as a Styer AUG or L85. I would put an illuminated dot sight or fiber optic iron sights on it. Despite the argument that 9mm is weak, my sidearm would definitely be a 9mm, most likely a Glock 17 or XDm. The reason is the higher magazine capacity and slightly lower recoil. If anything is close enough for me to need to use my sidearm, the 9mm will be plenty powerful to do the job. It would also be fitted with fiber optic iron sights. For hand to hand work, a machette or a katana would be my choice. Not the cheapo hundred dollar crap either. Hand made and authentic is the way to go.

Happy zombie killin'.
Nothing weak about the 9mm. Along with the 45 ACP it is the most war proven round. Thumbs up on the iron sights too. It's nice to have an ACOG or an EOTECH but batteries die and may be hard to find in the Zpoc.
I agree. I'd put my trust in the 9mm any day, but some people seem to think they are pea shooters...
i have a few retorts to your weapon ideas. all imo of course...

i agree, shotguns are great, but for close range with limited zed numbers, ie. clearing a building or a short move from one spot to another where you may need to take a zed out to get by but for a full on attack it could turn nasty real quick with a max of probly 7 shells and sloooooow reload...

an m16 is a pretty good choice as long as u keep it in constant maintenance...otherwise it becomes as burdensome as a shotgun...an AK47 would be a little better choice as far as missed cleaning times because they are a little more hardy...though slightly heavier...

as for pistols, stopping power doesn't really have any place in a zed apocalypse because you're not trying to stop a zed (unless they are insanely fast and will react to a bullet in the chest like the zombieland or 28 days or dawn of the dead sprinters) but trying to kill it with a single shot to the brain (rule #2: doubletap). a 9mm or even a .22 have more than enough power to penetrate the skull and kill a zed...even a .380 or .32, etc would work good for that purpose and they are much lighter than .40 or .45...preferably a glock 17 or 19 and even the .22 target upper for both so you have 9mm and .22 atyour disposal on the same pistol...

crowbars and machetes would be fantastic for a quick kill of one or 2 zeds but for any more than that you would want to train to take out multiple zeds...plus a crowbar, especially something like a 24in titanium model is light and works good on doors and things that need to be accessed with the quickness...

with machetes most would be worried about blood splatter but if its the dead that reanimate, their circulatory system is shut down and blood congealed so luckily, no splatter...

as for explosives and fire, the former more likely to be used as a zed decoy/distraction, the latter to dispose of the corpse to prevent the spread of disease...

if you just want to have fun (and probly be stupid) you could have weapons like tallahassee in ZL (bat, pickaxe, etc) to complete rule #32: enjoy the little things...
Yeah Newark. You weren't around for the .22 vs bigger gun discussions. I'm not looking to start another up here. There are different guns for different uses. As you pointed out some guns are heavier then others. You've got to carry that weight. You've got to determine the fire power you need and the amount you'll be able to carry.
I agree with what you say on everything but the primary.Being a person who makes knifes and other weapons of that sort i find a melee weapon an apsolute must.
my choice for my primary and secondary weapon would be a ar 15 357.magnum and for meele my dad has a buch of ww2 combat knives plus with a sniper even when silenced is good only as a roof top weapon for a zombie that can withstand a clip of anything to the head. your best off using it for meele in short to medium range combat. they make way to much noise without a silencer and the rounds arnt exaxly store bought
