Best Zombpoc weapon!
So i know this discussion is frequent and has a never ending "pro's and Con's" type arguement.
But Personally I believe the 12 gauge shotgun shell system is the best to consider in a survival situation, and the 45acp is the best side arm.
I used a list of factors to come up with this conclusion.
Reliability: The remington 870 variant pump action is my personal favorite because its well known for its simplicity and reliability in a combat situation. The Colt 1911 45acp is also known for both things.
Damage: The 12gauge shell is well known by all zombie hunters to be devastating against those "groaning bastards" But there's also a worl of different types of shells that you can utilize for a shotgun, turning it into a multipurpose killing machine, that can operate at distances up to 80 yards.
its also very easy to relaod the rounds, which is a plus to any gun enthusiant.
The 45.acp round is well known for having significant stopping power which is a necessity when youre dealing with crazed flesh eaters, and also is easy to reload.
Functionality: The 870 model shotgun has many variants and can be modified and utilized to any need whether it be CQC or medium range combat, if you need a longer range, you need a specialized weapon.
the 45. is going to put down anything that comes at you, whether its a head shot or not, its going to at least slow it enough to put down a few more rounds.
and the 45.glock holds 13 rounds, which cuts out the capacity con of the 45.acp

One of the most available weapons out there is a 12 gauge pump shotgun. It isn't a long distance weapon but if you use slugs you are pethal up to 100 yards if you know what you are doing. The pump shotgun is also one of the easiest weapons to use. The only shotgun that might be easier is a single shot or double barrel but the pump shotgun gives you a moderately better amount of ammo. Its not on par with my AR or even my glocks but it will do. The ammo variety is awesome and you have a good chance of taking multiple subjects depending on the ammo you use. I believe that a person who has no experience with firearms can pick up a 12 gauge pump shotgun and figure it out and possibly survive.
My personal preferences are well known on this forum. I've posted them several times on many similar threads. I have 2 different AR 15 variants. one is a carbine and the other a pistol. Either is an awesome weapon for firepower and accuracy. I wouldn't use the pistol over 100 yard son a pin point target but it is good for accuracy up to 300 yards. I was making center-mass body shots at 300 with the 7 inch barrel pistol. More often then not the pistol would be kept for security at my Home, as it is now. It is loud as shit though. I found that out in October when I had to take out a raccoon that got in and started raging around the house. The AR carbine is my current on-the-move weapon. My prefered sidearm is a Glock 21 or 30 or my personally owned 1911s. If I'm at work I'll stick with the Glocks because I can find mags quickly. If I'm on the move the Glocks go away and I bear my 1911s. I've got a Kabar and a Kukri in my B.O.B. A hand to hand melee weapon is my last resort. That is last resort if I'm out of ammo and can no longer escape. I like everyone else on this forum am not a BJJ Black Belt, Samurai or ninja. I can fight and have done so in the past. It is regrettably part of my job. The problem with fighting zeds is they don't feel pain, they don't know fear and they don't have memories of what being shot in the body or having a limb cleaved off will do to a normal human. Zeds just keep coming until you stop them. They don't stand back and come at you one at a time so you can cut their head off with a HSN Katana. I have a nice little toy that shoots .22lr. I'll use it for shooting rabbits and groundhogs.

I personally love the M4 ar-15 variant rifle, because its well known as the "big boys erector set", the different rounds and functionalities are endless. I just recently built a mid-long range semi auto .50 beowolf ar-15, which quite frankly puts "overkill" as an understatement.
but the 223. round is the same diameter as the 22.lr caliber round, making adaption as easy as opening a reciever and switching a bolt, and the .22lr round is very useful in the hands of an accurate rifleman, but honestly, its not as useable in a unknown situation whether you're working with zeds or some other human threat, a .22lr isnt gonna scare off a mountain lion or a crazed raider etc..
ALSO, hand to hand combat is always a very important aspect of zed engagement, i myself have been practicing brazillian ju-jitsu and krav maga, which like law enforcement training, is primarily focussed on pain and not lethality, but, you can adopt allof of the torque ability and apply is to dissarming a zed by breaking its arms, neck, or gauging its eyes out with your thumbs (really brutal shit)
as far as HTH weapons, i preffer the ka bar marine corps fighting knife, since its made speciffically for killing, it lives up to its reputation.

Everyone always says a shotgun or some kind of big dick gun that leaves an exit wound the size of a basketball court, but neither or even good option I believe, maybe against violent survivors but its too much for a zed. If you feel you need a gun go with a .22 rifle, wether it be a pump or a carbine. Solid accuracy and the most easily available weapon and ammunition. There is more .22 ammo in the world then most other calibers put together. On top of that when a .22 enters the skull it doesnt have enough velocity to exist, so it bounces of all the walls of the brain pan and turns the grey matter into mush. So no chance of your shot going right through and missing the stem or core.

See, i dont look at it as the "big dick" factor of the rifle,(although the sound of a shotgun racking has stopped more home invasions than gunshots). the 12 gauge specified rifle has MANY different utilities and is quite reliable. I agree that the .22lr round is cheap and availiable, but theres a reason the military and police forece doesnt use it, its small and quiet, So if you have 20 zeds either running or limping towards you, do you really want to have to worry about EVERY shot being a headshot? or do you want to be able to mow down limbs and heads into mush with 3 rounds in close quarters? btw, the 12 gauge buckshot is almost as common and cheap as the .22lr round.

.22lr ammo does not automatically ricochet when it enters the body. Just like any other ammo if it hits soft flesh and shows no resisitance it will continue in a straight line until it strikes bone or meets resistance. A .22lr might. might enter a human skull. Once it enters a human skull it meets resistance from the brain matter. The .22lr slug, which normally is about 40 gr+/-, rarely has the momentum to exit the opposite side because the brain matter slows its momentum. If there is any momentum left by the time the slug reaches the other side of the skull it might ricochet back in to the brain matter but will not bounce around like a fly in a tin can.
Below is a .22lr fired in to a 22lr. Left is entrance and right is exit.
223 remington in to a pizza box. left entry and right is exit. No real difference ten the 22lr. The original author measured the .223 at .0003 bigger. So no discernable difference.

The pictures show that you need more then a bit slug. You need velocity behind the mass of the slug to drive it to penetrate.

I personally don't own a 308. Yet! I'm looking at a Ruger gunsite Scout Riflein 308. When I get one I'll add hi rise mounts and a 1-4 tactical scope. It will be a moderate distance/hunting rifle. I took those pics from another forum. I didn't do the shooting personally.

M1A baby!!!!!!! Thats my choice, but I don't plan on using it in close quarters unless I have to. I'll stick to the sidearm for that situation.
Anyways, all the above bullets can penetrate the skull, even if it can't penetrate a steel pipe. The damage they do differs the same as the stopping power. I'd go with .45 if it wasn't so expensive, because it has knock down power. So, if there are a bunch of zeds coming down a hallway, I can shoot one in the chest and watch fall back into the others behind it. It'll be like dominos. 22lr can't do that.
The 7.62 x 39mm would do good. It has the ability to penetrate, it has stopping power, and has range. Plus, most guns that use it can be used in close quarters.

yeah they can all penetrate the skull depending on the skull rigidity, distance, barrel length of the weapon and type slug.
45acp isn't too expensive if you reload. I've also shot Tula out of my 1911s and it performs well unlike when I've shot Tula in ARs. Tula is dirt cheap and can be had at Wally World.
