There has been a brief discussion, in the chat room, of in a extreme case for survival, when all food supplies are gone and the Zombies are still coming.
How would one have to prepare Zombie Meat?
What are the ramifications of eating the Zombie Meat?
What should someone do if the Zombie Meat wasn't prepare properly?
Is there even a proper way to prepare Zombie Meat?
Food Poisoning, Death, Reanimation.
Favorite Recipes.
I have heard that as well. Consumption, leads to food poisoning, which leads to death, which does NOT result in reanimation.
I just wondered if there isn't the possibility of proper cooking (well done) would not eradicate the virus within the meat. Or is it more like Mad Cow Disease, where no matter of food preparation would make the meat safe?
even if you did cook it really really done and ate it (provided the person has no open mouth sores), it would still lead to permanent death. infected flesh has proven to be highly toxic.
That seems to be the strongest belief that I have heard so far. That like Mad Cow Disease, there is no way to render the meat safe for human consumption.
So, I guess the question is now. If someone was to consume Zombie Meat and inevitably die of massive food poisoning. Would they now reanimate?
Fried Zombe
1. cut the meat into strips
2. Crumble saltene crackers into breadcrumb sized chunks
3. make a batter of 1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup 2% milk
4. fry in oil till' golden brown
enjoy
How would one have to prepare Zombie Meat? - I would cook it thoroughly and test it on several "subjects" to see what happened before eating it.
What are the ramifications of eating the Zombie Meat? - Well either it is rancid and makes you ill, turns you, or it is just fine. I will test it before I ingest it that is for sure.
What should someone do if the Zombie Meat wasn't prepare properly? - Um.... probably get sick and do your best to purge your system fast.
Is there even a proper way to prepare Zombie Meat? - Trial and error will tell the tale.

Found this recipe in an old copy of Post Apocalyptic Southern Living
Zombie-Zucchini Stroganoff
1 pound ground zombie* meat..thigh meat works best
1/2 cup onions -- chopped
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 cups uncooked egg noodles
2 cups zucchini -- julienned
salt and pepper
1 teaspoon dried chervil or basil
1 cup sour cream
Brown zombie* meat and onions in skillet. Add other ingredients except for sour
cream and simmer covered til noodles are done. Stir in sour cream and
heat through
*Make sure the meat is completely and thoroughly cooked and ALL grease and byproducts are drained and discarded or you my fall asleep and be reanimated as a member of the living dead, and at the very least have a screaming case of the runs.
Enjoy
well from a max brooks point of view comsuming the flesh of the living dead would trun u into one of the dead f**ks.but virus and bact.cant survive hot temperatures,so i think there could be a way to eat them, but i would rather eat my own arm or starve to death then eat one of them, also i was reading post before mine, think about it,ur not eating a zombie u eat human flesh!!!!!!chances are u wouldnt reanimate, the meat(human flesh)is highly toxic it would kill u before u would reanimate
I think another point to bring up is how freshly reanimated the zombie meal came from. A just fallen and raised body would possibly have less of a chance of hurting you than a zombie who has been roaming the streets for a few weeks.
In either situation, until somebody actually goes out and tests fresh and rotten zombie steaks and passes on the information, I still plan to leave it to a very last resort. If I'm down to either starving to death or trying my luck, I'm definitely going for it.
I would have to say that as long as there are forest animals (even badgers) available, I would not be wanting for meat. That said, should things grow so dire that zombie meat was all that was available? I would starve.
As a former meat cutter, I can tell you from experience that meat begins to grow dangerous amounts of bacteria after left at room temprature for about two hours. That said, a walking corpse is warmer than room temprature prior to becoming a corpse. That means that once the bodies natural defense mechanisms are switched off, bacteria already in the body will begin the decomposition process within minutes. This is why bodies that have been left for only a few hours begin to smell.
Unless you killed the fucker yourself while he was alive and you can start dressing him out immediately, don't risk it. Eating rancid meat under any conditions and no matter how well cooked is likely to leave you far worse off than hunger alone.
If you are in an untenable position, and you cannot hunt or fish or dig for earthworms, there is always eating yourself to consider...
