Think about it while the zombie apocalypse may have its upsides it also has worse downsides. Like in flu season there will be no doctors to give vaccines. And if there is no heat what will you do? Tell me more downsides and what you will do to prevent them.

no food- grow some

limited gasoline- biodiesel or wood gas

no services- learn to do it yourself

no doctors- don't get hurt

no communications- switch to CB, ham radio, analog landline, and dial-up modem & BBS.

no electricity- make some

no running water- make your own system

no gas (for heating)- use wood instead

security problems- build a very good stronghold

limited ammo- get into reloading

200yrs ago there was none of those things and we did alright. So many people get hung up on making technology work again when the technology isn't needed, it's a luxury. My mother grew up in a house that had neither power or running water, that was only 80yrs ago, we have gone soft.

"Doctors-don't get hurt"  I think you should re-think that statement. People don't get hurt or ill by choice. Again,we can re-learn the old ways. It's amazing how quickly people have become dependent on luxury.

Medical- Learn basic understanding of medical care and basic emergency medical steps

No gas for heating - use Ancient china approach by using steam  and or just make sure to isolate enough

Limited ammo - Improvised weaponry

Information flow - post pigions and or horse based postal between areas, also old fashioned  Morse lines

Degrading knowledge- tap into old computers with power, make your own little hub and travel around looting hardrives etc.

Survival - learn  Basic understanding of  survival tactics and basic combat tactics.

i agree, we have truly become to accustomed to our technology us in the western region of this world.

I bet if someone tried to truly live as an African for a year they`d fail within a month.

To running water to sewers to even electricity, lets take Greece and Rome  for the two firs examples .as how rudimentary technology can be adjusted to work very well.

Dig ditches and fill it with  bricks/ rocks on the side and on top for both, the ancient aqueducts know about those?

as for the latter example just take  the Baghdad battery, and the supposed Egyptian light bulb, all based on rudimentary technology but  technically would work very well, like our own current light bulbs and batteries.

But in a Zombie out break we as mankind, if we can work together  can adapt easily and take control of regions of towns to restore old infrastructure. thats another Note to this most infrastructure would be standing and  not necessarily damaged.

You cant make steam without heat and it takes training to send pigeons and horses and morse lines some1 has to set them up I don't think people acknowledge the time it takes to do stuff. The Amish will the best of in America.
Those things take a long time to make. You'll die before food grows and freeze while trying to find wood chop it and bring it back home and the list goes on

The whole "end of the world" kind of thing might be considered a downside...The whole people you love are dead and stuff. Yeah, those are just a second worth of thought...
