What is your dream fortress beyond the stupid stuff of a missle silo or nuclear bunker like if you could muster the supplies together with other survivors what would you realistically try and build

For me i would want either a stone building, or a metal building like a warehouse type or one of the multi car garages split up into rooms and with access to the roof for sniping running on solar and wind electricity and attached to a well system, outside i would want a perimeter wall around 7 feet tall out side of that i would want an area fenced of with chain link fence that would be large enough to establish a garden to begin growing my own food as for location an isliand would be best because then you could just fence off the entire thing, but then you have issues with soil being able to grow things if it was on the mainland i would want it as close to a cliff face so less chance of being attacked from that side, as well as close to a river so that if zed wasn't at my door step i could fish and were there are fish and water there are big game to hunt

I've thought about this too. But then again it would depend on how fast the zeds spread and if people had time to shop/loot much.

I am full expecting the place to be crawling with Zeds. I'd go in through a skylight and snipe anything that moved first.I'm not expecting this to be a fast process. When I had not seen anything move for 30 minutes(we would try to draw them out with noise) I or someone faster would climb down a rope ladder while the rest covered him. Once he was down a second would follow. Working as a team they would move though the store round where we could see them. When that part was secure the rest would follow with one person staying up top and watching down over us. I would not even attempt this alone or with less then 5 people.

Only after the rest of the store had been searched would we open the automotive door long enough for the other survivor to come in. Now I am assuming that most of the people I have talked to survived and are with me.

Yes I realize that this plan has a lot of possible snags and if I did not have the man power to pull it off I'd just rip out the front steps of my house and board up the front door. Smaller stores would be easier to hit with a smaller crew and I have a 5' chain link fence around my house that would keep most of the zeds out.
read my story to see how to deal with Wally World...
Miitary post or atleast near one. I will have to stay near a best buy for entertainment propeses
Industrial estates are a good location. When the outbreak occurs everyone will try to get home ,leaving factories vacant. So there will be few zeds around.Remember food is distributed from industrial areas. Why bother with the store when you can have the depot? Many factories and especially truck depots have their own fuel supplies. Most have high fences. If you HAVE to hole up, forget suburbia and retail areas, head for the source of the goods.
I lived for several years in a huge (I used to ride a push bike from the bed room to the bathroom) apartment that spanned the top floor of 5 factories, it had 1 steel door as an entrance and access to the roof and awnings over the factories.Places like that are around if you look for them, cheap rent too because of the noise during the day, but who cares if your at work anyway.
That's actuly the most orginal idea I've ever heard on this site
Thanks Joshua, it comes from spending a lot of time in such areas.
