Fast or Slow?

For me personally, I prefer the slow, non-intelligent Romero style zombie. However, there's plenty of room in the world of zombies for different interpretations of what zombies are, how they move and act etc. and new interpretations are always interesting.

I feel the same way. I like the Dawn of the Dead (remake) interpretation, but I prefer the slow type myself.

You know, I was just about to ask something of the same calibur...I was reading an article about the Zombieland movie due out soon, and the guys keep refering to modern zombies...WTF are modern zombies?

I understand the need to change things in a videogame, make things a little faster paced. But, as has been discussed before, 28 days later isn't really a zombie movie, it's a virus movie...they moved that quickly because they weren't dead...

The only real zombie movie that I remember the fast "runner" type was Dawn of the Dead remake...and even then, they weren't all fast...

But I would have to ask, why does everyone feel the need to change something that has survived the test of time? Zombies have been around longer than christianity...

Now to answer your questions...
Zombies can be magic, virus or spacegas...

I can agree that some will be fast, but most should be slow...

They don't have intelligence...just a single thought process...

Technically, it may do either...which is it's only goal...nothing world domination type...

I like your thoughts. What the hell is a modern zombie? Zombieland just looks like a weird movie to me anyway. None of the zombie film goals and techniques in there. You know?

Same here buddy. Not just because there easier either. Just because that's what zombies are. They terrify, corner you, surround you.... It's not fun.

I watch a lot of horror/zombie movies, thank you netflix. Most are trash but, this one the other night had fast zombies that could run across walls and ceilings and leap like 50 feet in a bound. I mean, how can you compete with that? I vote slow and stupid!

... I prefer 28 days later zombies :( (infected for those of you who are pedantic)

They pose the only significant threat in my opinion. Slow zombies are like steamrollers... oh no a steam roller is going to run me over... better put my shoes on... do up the laces... tuck in my shirt... do up my tie... have a nap etc... ok now i'm in trouble... *runs* ok now we're safe. If you can't survive slow zombies then you probably don't deserve to be in my post apocalyptic society.

I still think 28 days type are still "basically" zombies. I do find slow zombies a real and extremely dangerous threat. Say this happens...

In a big city there could be 400,000 people.
1,000 escape the city.
10,000 die and are eaten.

1 is you.

That leaves 388,991 zombies in one dense city. A city so crammed with cars and buildings that, at this now post-apocalyptic time, every turn ends you in a dead end or a tight space.
Slow zombies power is in the endurance, but, most of all, in there numbers.

Lets all so say you think guns are the answer to zombies. Shoot them in the head and all (which does work). You see a zombie and you shoot it. It dies. The sound of this bullet would travel a pretty far distance in a normal city, but this city is desolate. No cars. No planes. No people. The sound travels for miles.

A zombie hears this sound, moans and comes at you. About how many hear that first shot in that crammed city. How many hear the moans that end up chaining for miles and miles.

Runners don't moan.

You bring up a good point JV, but what if it was a steamroller with infinit gas? You can't walk forever...and you can only do up your tie so much before it strangles you...that would suck...
