Hey guys.

I always notice that when there's a zombie attacking a person who has no real way to flee except on foot, the response is almost always to keep running and hope for the best.

Wouldn't probably the better reaction be find anything suitable nearby to use and stand your ground and fight? Especially if we're talking about a runner here. They don't tire out as fast (if at all) and will probably catch us before we can make it out of the way.

What do you guys think?

I would say stand and fight, but much like humans they stay in groups. I hope you take this time to properly equip yourself with basic survival tools, I wouldnt want to be without some type of personal safety.
Being in groups is always useful and should never be dismissed.

But self-sufficiency is always necessary. I don't think one has to ever exclude the other.

Anyway, at the risk of sounding redundant - I also would stay and fight. Running can only take you so far, and the threat is still not far behind. It wouldn't stop until it killed me, so I believe taking the same approach to it is warranted.

Fight.
If it's a sprinter, like in Dawn of the Dead or even similar to the infected in the 28 Days/Weeks movies, then I'd use whatever physical material I carried around, like a crowbar, to fight (because I wouldn't just carry guns and ammunition).

Assuming I didn't have that either, then I'd look for something else. Depending on where you are, finding an alternative weapon to bash the head or break a bone that might slow down the zombie might not be so difficult.

I mean, for how long can we hope to outrun them?
I just hope they're not Return of the Living Dead zombies. Those are a bitch to handle.
if there those were all fucked because there is no way to kill them remember "i thought shooting them in the head killed them.... It worked in the movies"
well it really depends on the situation. if i have the tools to defend myself, then most definitely fight, and as quickly and quietly as possible, so as to not attract any more zeds. but if i don't have anything to defend myself, which almost never happens, there's always something there, then definitely run until i can fight.
Why not do both... retreat and draw them into an area which is more advantagious for you then engage.
Or out manuver them. out manuvering a Zercker would be harder than a Crawler but both require timing and observation.

Standing your ground is foolhardy... move erraticly and stratigicly and two people can bring down twenty crawlers with ease.
you do have to remember though, that every close encounter you have with Zack puts you at risk for infection. If you have to fight Zack, try to make sure it's on YOUR terms. Obviously you will have to face them eventually, just be smart about it. Don't rush into things. If you have other people to work with, work together and make sure everyone knows the plan. If you find yourself rushing headlong into battle, STOP. Regroup and rethink if you have the time.
it depends if its a small outbreak of zeds I will stand and fight, but i its an entire amry after me i will run but i will survive
It depends on your supplies and your intentions really. If you have limited supplies, I think it would be best to conserve your supplies for when you might need them more. If you're clearing a path or getting after more supplies, then by all means you fight, but standing and fighting seems like a bad idea. Staying dynamic and moving seems like a much better plan.
