There's 192,000 people in my city, and I have 131,000 rounds of ammo. eh, I think I have enough ammo. add in the ammo & guns I'd "salvage" from local suppliers I should have no problem.
Plan B, moving to a less populated area is easier said than done! in fact, it could put you at greater risk than staying put in a familiar environment.
1, few people have the money & resources to just move whenever they feel like it. moving is expensive, something many people only do 1 or 2 times in their lives. There's normal everyday things impacted my that move. going to work, getting errands done, taking kids to school/going to college, taxes, living costs, etc. moving now simply is not a viable choice for the majority of people, otherwise everyone would be living just where they want, not where they are now.
2, if you have no hideout away from the city moving out someplace that you don't know, don't have supplies at, should something happen to your load of supplies- you get robbed or it's lost- you're screwed big time!
3, going into unfamiliar territory is always a risk. you don't know the roads, you don't know the people, you don't know a whole lot of things. even right now driving into say, a big downtown area in a different city is difficult, especially if you looking for a specific address and their roads are confusing. Like if you live in LA and needed to go to downtown San Diego. not being familiar with the lay of the land, roads, etc, you can loose your sense of direction and get totally lost! In the ZPAW you will not have a GPS to guide you (it seems most people use a gps all the time). getting lost could potentially result getting surrounded by a horde of zombies.
4, buying land or other property for a hideout is also not affordable for the majority of the population. buying 1 house is expensive enough, now to buy another and use it exclusively as a hideout/vacation home? that's completely unrealistic.
5, looking at all these problems it could be better to stay put, and work with that you have to survive rather than move someplace and start over from only what you can carry in your car. unless you're one of those people who have nothing now and is very mobile- you have no attachments and can move just about anywhere at a moment's notice. no friends, no family, not even a stable job. for the most of us we have roots where we are now, just severing them and packing up and leaving is much harder than you'd think.
Permalink Reply by the death of saint.357 on May 27, 2012 at 11:39am very very true i for one am stuck in an area surrounded on all sides by major city's and i hate it but don't have the ability to move or by a bug out location. my plan is to stick it out and make a go of it as long as i can. though i am looking into some kind of bug out where i can go with out having to pay for it. a cabin in the woods is great if you can afford it. other wise a tent in the woods maybe what you have to make of it. maybe try looking for abandoned buildings in your chosen bug out location. try to find a few cause you never know if it will still be standing when you need it. its not great but it will be better then a tent.
once you do find a place i suggest just getting your elf and failure with that area as you can. study the maps of that area. go for a weekend up there in a hotel or a camping trip just get yourself failure with the area as best you can. and try taking a different route there every time. get to the know all the areas between you and your bug out. of course it is always better to own the land you plan to use but not always possible this way you can still have that bug out if you need it. and if your serious about survival then try to save up for the cabin in the woods. don't go to the movies or out to eat put that money away. now I'm not saying what you said was wrong its just there are always options.
now its great you have that much ammo but that's just your towns population. what about the people in the city's and areas around you that may turn and come flocking towards you as zombies. then thick about what if you can't kill all those zombies with just one shot what if it takes two or three shouts a piece. then you ammo gets cut in half or even thirds. think about this a trained soldier in the field has on average one kill for every hundred rounds shot. and that's with out needing to pull off something as difficult as a head shot. and even if you can pull that off at the range. when your in the thick of it and you cold, tiered, hungry, scared and your adrenalin's rushing. do you think you'll still have what it takes to get a one shot one kill. that's not even taking into account that one out of every three people just don't have what it takes to take a life when the moment comes. and you may think its just a zombie. but remember its a zombie that may look just like a normal person. a woman, a child. do you think you have what it takes to kill a zombie when they look like a normal little girl. the truth is until your in that situation you don't know. you just don't know.
overconfidence is the real killer, if you think your ready, if you think you know everything, then your already dead my friend. "stay alive, because the dead won't stay dead on their own"!

Permalink Reply by the death of saint.357 on May 27, 2012 at 1:07pm I'm gonna just try and lay low wait for the zombies to sweep through and then shamble on after all the people who ran to get out of the city. hopefully it won't take those undead {expletive deleted} to long to swarm out into the rest of the country!
