take up martial arts or advanced boxing, not really for the zeds but for those thinking your easy prey. learn to shoot *unless your in California..then learn to fire slingshots* and take up boy scouts then JROTC when you hit high school.....

Go out and spend a week in the woods. Use mininal gear. No tent allowed. When the week is over, and you're still alive... CONGRADULATIONS! You survived. Go home and learn from this experience. What should you have brought? What did you bring that you didn't need?
Now that you have you've had time to replan your adventure. Go out and do it again. Keep doing it untill you can spend a long time on your own. Most likely, that's how it's going to be.

Starting ou with survival manuals is a good start. Learning hand to hand combat is always a good idea. Learning how to shoot, and maintain your weapons is a must. When it come to weapons stay away with what you see in video games and movies. Find the most reliable, maintaineance free weapons you can. The follow is what I would suggest to anyone. Their clean, reliable, will allow you to carry a lot of different firearms, with only 3-4 different rounds.
1. Find a nice AR15, stick with a company that retro fits their guns with gas piston, over the unrelibale, dirty gas impingement.
2. A nice tactical 12 gauge. Remington 870, Mossberg 500 is good. Stick with pumps over semi auto, less moving parts to break.
3. Smith and Wesson, or Glock pistols. Polymer bodies, make for easy maintaineance. Less rust and corrosion. I like Smith and Wesson M&P .40 calibers. They shoot a round that has lots of knockdown power, and is pretty easy to find in a gun shop. This will come in handy if your on the move, any abandoned gunshop, or large sporting goods store will have it. Keep any other pistol you may want to carry in the same caliber as your primary pistol. This way your only carrying one pistol rounds, you can carry lots of it in the right bag.
A lot of people will recommend carrying a sword, or some type of long handled blade weapon. I say if it weighs you down, leave it behind. If your stuck fighting anything zombie or human with a sword or knife your probably going to lose, or get bit at the very least.

i agree with you exept for a few things. the ar15 yeah its good bc it allows you to shoot a killing round that can group nicley and has little recoil but no matter what ar15's will jamyou need a hk416. hk has improved the ar15 by making the piston NEVER get hot even if you put 600+ rounds through it it stays room temature. this means the gun is sooooooo reliable you never have to worry about jams and hk grooved the barrel more so its killer accurate and with shot guns i like the idea of the pump expecialy the 870 i have a tactical pistol grip verson of it and i love it, but my favorite is the benelli m4 semi auto 12 gauge. benelli is a very very nice itallian made company so you already know there good (bc there not chinese lol) you want the full stock and full mag tube bc it only holds 4+1 rounds with out a full tube with a full tube its 7+1 so big advantage and benelli made this sosososososooooo reliable you can put it through any type of terrain and it will work. now to the pistols any pistol will work bc its only a backup weapon. remember weapons are only a last resort and befor you use your fire arms youse a melee weapon like a axe so it doesnt attrack attention. but for a pistol you want a hkusp or a glock 22 or any type of glock for that matter i just prefer the 22. the usp is dead accurate and will turn some batshit zombie into a lifless pile of flesh. and again its very reliable.OH AND!!! its field disassembly ready. you can literaly take it apart and put it back together in 45 secounds. and i would carry a melee weapon but not one thats gonna break or bend i just want a blunt/ smashing type of cut weapon like a axe but one with a fiberglass handle bc the fiberglass is wwaaay lighter than wood and is vertualy indestructable. but yeah for those who dont kow guns very well a glock 22 does not shoot a .22lr round it shoots a 40 sw which is like the perfect mixture between a 9mm and a .45 auto. but yeah i want a good rucksack(heavyduty backpack) with me to carry mre's(ready food) ammo clothes and water and i happen to own a pointblack protective molle vest so im wearing that to lol its $4000 so dont plan on getting one of those but yeah any type of bdu that you can wear bc they are very tear resistant and warm but this is my oppinion you may think different but this is how im going lol

I agree that the HK is a nice rifle. My only problem with the 416 is that HK changed quiet a bit of features with the bolt, and bolt carriage. My concern with a firearm that has been modified is that finding parts for it won't be easy find during a apocolyptic type scenario. Don't get me wrong I believe HK makes an excellent firearm, super durable. I dont believe you've checked out the LWRC's AR though. Thats what I personally own. Its not heavily modified with the exception of the upper receiver and the mods up there aren't going to fail. They use gas piston, instead of impingement. I have a friend who has a large piece of property where we often go to shoot, and run cover drills. I have put my m6-g through some of the nastiest torture test I can think of, and haven't had one problem with it yet. Ive buried it in mud, and dirt with the dust cover open. Lifted it outta the muck, given it a slight shake and fired multiple clips through it. Ive fired it after submerging it in some of nastiest swamp water I can find and have yet to have failure. I would absolutely trust my life with it.
Now going back to the shotgun. I worked in a gun shop for about 2 yrs. I sold losts of Benelli's and I know what Im about to say sounds like blasphemy but I don't trust most Benelli's for much more than an oversized paperweight. The only one I trust is the Super Black Eagle, and its semi auto giving you more parts to break. Out of all the shotguns we carried the three best brans were Mossbergs, Remingtons, and Wilson.
I have several molle packs, and wome tact gear. I dont know if Im going to spend $4000 on a vest lol but I like molle gear.
Back to guns, Im a big fan of glocks so I'll agree with that. I just happened to come into the Smith and Wessons for a great price, and ultimately they are a better pistol. If price is the only concern definitely go with the glock 22, their cheaper and super reliable. Like I said, I just happened to procure mine very cheap. I bought 2 M&P40, and the M&P40c at the sametime for $1200 bucks. If you do the math thats $400 a pistol. Really good deal.

The P416 makes an excellent cover gun its a little large for room clearing, or entering a building. Ive looked at DPMS rifles before, most of them are gas impingment if my memory serves correctly. Their video is impressive for gas impingment. Gas piston runs cooler, is more reliable, and gives a lot better barrel wear.

Yes it is, though the movie prop used a chopped up Spas 12 which I doubt they used here, probably a super-shorty 870 by the looks of it, with a mocked up heat shield, can't tell though if it's set up for the 30 round mag or 20 rd on the thompson mag. either way I'd buy it...lol
