Ok so here's the thing.
Many of you are missing the most important thing about Zombies, They look exactly like people.

Say what you want to this but it's true.
If you where to see a man wandering down the street stumbling a little and covered in blood, your not going to imediately think "Zombie" you are more likely to go "Oh god what happened to him, i wonder if he's ok?"
And if you do go "Zombie" and immediately grab a gun and lock and load... i'm more than a little worried for your grip on both sanity and reality.

But back to the point at hand.

What is it that lets you at first glance look at a memeber of the undead and go "That right there is a Zombie"?

Share your knowledge.
And i want a real answer none of this "Because i'm me and i know." or "Zombies look like Zombies, Thats how."
Because Zombies look like People, people who have been injured none the less but people all the same.

I imediently go "That right there is a Zombie" when I notice their missing an eye and not crying.

It's just one of those "things".
I'm assuming you mean freshly lost.

Because i know quite a few people with only one eye, and they don't cry about it.
Perhapse if the eye was hanging from the socket?

i'm not trying to shoot anyone down, BUT! i have read far too many storys or recounts where the protaganist can instantly identify the undead, Even at night from a distance.

(I'm a bit picky about these things.)

Please i wan't more ideas and reasons on how to/how you identify the undead.
Well to be fair a zombie would look just like a person only they'd run like somebody at the special Olympics, chances are the body language of running and trying to grab/bite living things would do it. But the one thing about that would be easy to tell about zombies is the skin color would change drastically.
Good answer mate i can see that some actual thought went into that.
Also this would work a a bit, since they don't blink their eyes would be cut/sanded down. So it would be very pale looking like a blind person(only for a few days, then it would slowly grind away)
Also, and for some reason I haven't seen anyone post this, but there are distinct differences between a living person and a corpse. For one thing, the blood flow stops (not immediately of course) after a person dies, (hince if you didn't notice any obvious wounds on a person, it's likely that they attacked someone or were around someone who was attacked.) The typical zombie tends to make a growling noise as well. I think the point I'm trying to make is, if you have blood on you, pale skin, growling like a mad animal, and are trying to bite me, I'm going to shoot the f*ck out of you.
Zombie aren't always look like humans...
There's a deformed type of Z's, a handless of footless Z's, most of it covered them self with blood - gory looks and they growls not talk.... Except, if you trying to make a comparison of zombie type with a deranged killer type of infected people on the movie - The Crazies...

PS.But, I think most of the zombies like loud music .... LoL
It would be hard to identify a zombie, u could probably tell by there actions,if one is walking at you and not responding to anything u say like "stop!" or something I guess o ~ o
plus u know it's not human if there organs r dangling out or missing a few limbs and not responding to any intense pain
If your coming at me, you have blood on you and, you do not respond to vocal commands, your as good as dead anyways...
I believe that if a "person" is walking down the street after being dead for several days, has decaying flesh, and has blood on them, they qualify as a zombie lol xD
