keep moving. dont get close. go for limbs or head if needed but dont go looking for a fight unless your setting up shop.

Lol ok, I'm always on the move I never stay in one place for too long,
Which is why when I turn 18 I'll prolly never stay in one city(:

look out for stray dogs in the wastelands  there vicious as hell and there bark will attract more dead

others survivors will slow you down but be careful who you turn away some are more useful than you think.  

 

also if in a group establish a leader and group without a "father" figure will eventually break down and normally end in blood baths

Make sure you  pack light if you decide to travel and begin investigating your own house. a wooden staircase would be best, easilly broken down creating a save haven from the undead in your own home. begin cutting back on sugar and addictive substances as cigarettes, cafeine and alcohol. As for the history of zombies, there have been documented cases from around the world of none voodoo zombies. a  vase dating back from almost 400BC holding three pictures; one man biting another, the victim lying on his deathbed, the victim rising up again. this meant that the events wouldbe repeated as you turned the vase you would end up back at the first picture of a man biting another. As for the voodoo zombies, these creatures are different from the ones you see in movies and read about in books. Although there are variations, combining the facts about these creatures you will find a basic package on zombies; movement, abilities, strengths and weakness. Focus on these and you will be able to prepare for the outbreak better than the others.

By the others I mean everyone who thinks it will never happen and will therefore be the first to die or break down and shoot themselves.

Yeah and there are more documented cases though that one is the only I still know of.
