Ok, GZD, Do you think that the internet would still be functional after a global zombie disaster like in the recent Dawn of the Dead movie? [A character in a short, but related, film mentions that the internet "still works" on the dvd extras] I see no reason to think that the internet would malfunction- but It never hurts to know other's opinions.

Please discuss. c:

Naturally not everything on the web would stay functioning without the proper server maintenance and the possibility of power outages and eventual collapse of entire power grids but assuming such things could be maintained the Internet would most likely continue to thrive.
I think if possible they would do whatever they could to keep it up and running. It almost seems to make more sense to keep it going more than TV or radio. To get info you need as apposed to what they feel you need. Info on whats happening, checking in on family and friends and just knowing whats possible to get done in other areas. This is where I think wireless networks would just rule. If you have a notebook w/ a wireless card, then running and keeping intouch would be much more possible. Less noise than a cellphone too. lol But there are definately going to be drawbacks I'm sure.
Of course I wasn't thinking about "power" in general. lol I guess without power its pretty much a moved point.
Satellites, generators, Wind, Solar, Hydroelectric. There will be internet.
I'm sure the Internet would be functioning in the event of a complete global apocalypse. It still would help to know how to operate and use a HAM radio though.
absolutely
Any knowledge of anything technical would be Highly valuable during the apocalypse.
learn what you can NOW before the dead roam the earth.
it will remain functional as long as power lasts. but who knows if the governments of the world would allow free speech as attrocities come knocking on our doorsteps or for that matter breaking through our doors and eating us alive? think of all the times information has been stopped from reaching the public, the spin doctors will put twists on things, the internet might get knocked out due to "terrorist attacks". who knows. just an idea (based in truth)
Good thing the internet isn't just in one central location. We are all "The Internet". Yes certain servers and such can be knocked out but there are people out there who have the knowledge to keep it going. The power can go out but there are ways to power up.
true, but any tech head in a position of authority can remotely shut out information. ip traces and packet transfers are simple processes. someone at interpol gets a little trigger happy and suddenly websites are unable to be viewed. i may have messed up my words, but what i meant was i have seen things on news channels like cnn and within a minute of a live feed (for example i once saw soldiers in afganistan shoot a boy with 2 goats) they changed the story and said the boy had a bomb. who's to say they wouldn't put a twist on the information viewable online. at any point in time every single thing written can be erased chnaged to say anything else. you how history is written by the victors? a victory is happening every second of the day, what we know to be truth is as we are told it.

but i see your point prime. the internet as a whole can't be taken down (well it could with some cleverly placed demolitions to critical backbones) but information can be remotely changed to fit certain needs
Where there is a will there is a way. Who is to say that the techs left outside of Government couldn't bring up their own network. Anything can happen. Information is crucial.
