Lost Zombies Live Event: Brainstorm Area

This area is for questions, ideas, concerns and comments related to the Lost Zombies Live Event. Please feel free to post. See this video post for more details

The basic idea behind the live event is to host a 24 hour day-one-zombie-apocalypse scenario. I don't have a plan for exactly how we would execute this live event, which is why I'm giving you guys a chance to voice ideas, concerns and comments. Essentially we would choose a day and on that day, we act as though the zombie apocalypse is beginning and we'd invite you all to play along and document the event as though it were real. 

Here's a random list of ideas I'm thinking about:

  • Users sign up to be part of the event. 
  • On a specific day, at a predetermined time the event goes live. 
  • The event has a fixed duration (probably 24 hours)
  • Once the event is live we send out plot points that inform participants on what is happening. These will be presented as though they are really happening. For example we may show a news clip of zombies escaping Camp St. Teresa. 
  • Broadcasts will be in multiple formats: videos, text message, tweets, web posts, voicemail.
  • We will give provide lots of ways for you to participate (all optional). You'll be able to go to a website, receive text messages on your mobile, call a phone number, interact with in-character people via Skype... we may even create an android/iPhone app that provides updates on the event.
  • Participants will be asked to document the live-event as though it were real. This may include: shooting video, recording audio, taking photos, etc.... 
  • We may invite participants to appear at specific locations and actually act out scenarios. 
  • If it's not already obvious, there will be some level of role playing involved.

Keep in mind that none of this is set in stone, we're very early in the planning process.

This should turn into something awfully cool....

I'd propose setting up 'dummy' facebook accounts as well and clue in LZ.com members as to who they are. Easter eggs on this site or others could provide extra links to information - a bit like Cloverfield did with their viral campaign.

Some way to simulate communications lockup/blackout would be interesting. The gov or what not locks down all official news channels and its left up to ustream broadcasters, forum posters, etc to let people know what is actually happening, not the watered down version that the "legit" media would be giving.

WE COULD DO IT IN LIKE A TRAILER PARK OR APARTMENT COMPLEX. GET ALOT OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE TO PARTICIPATE AND WE COULD USE LIKE PAINTBALL GUNS OR SOMETHING. MAYBE SOEM LEFT 4 DEAD TYPE SCENERIO OR MAYBE AN OBSTACLE COURSE TYPE THING.

Facebook is a hell of a tool.  Everyone has one and if everyone had some type of event going on all at once, others would join in who are not evenpart of lostzombies.

Kinda like  H. G. Wells did for radio, we could do to facebook. We would need a certain date and time for everyone to pull this off.( shot in the dark) but really if you could put togther a group of soo many of the sites followers and have them post different text about the end of the world and their own videos. It could happen. Soc media of facebook is awesome.

Or advertise. Skot since you have an over whemling amount of footage and zombie recordings. Idk if on the LostZombie site, you could have an auto play screen of somesort. Members could advertise that the end of the world is coming at a certain date and time via LostZombie.com. You know how people/ members get. signs off the side of the highways, posters on buildings, flyers in windows. News coverage will pick up on it and a ton of new members can be added. Hell you could even live stream through Youtube.

I'm curious to know how much security camera like footage has been submitted. Realistically not everyone is going to be running around the apocalypse with there camera phones rolling. I think you'd be more likely to see worried audio of phone calls to relatives, a Vid-Bloggers take interrupted by a text or email alert, an internet chat-room or forum thread filled with replies to the Breaking news clip, and the convenience store customer who leaves his purchase at the counter when he gets a text message on his mobile.
