Killing zed is easy, but what happens when you have to fight other survivors at close range? Then think about if your empty handed? What martial arts style do you prefer, and why?

I prefer Krav Maga, an anything goes more modern type of fighting utilized my the isreali military

I meant by, not my.
I would use a hybrid of many different martial arts and perfect them using Jeet Kune Do. I don't think there is singular martial art that tops all the others, but rather, many martial arts combined and and perfected that will be better than all the others. There are many different areas of fighting that must be cover and you must cover every aspect of these areas in order to persevere in combat. Some martial arts cover some parts of an area, but not all or only cover one area and leave you exposed in the others. In combat, you can't be one dimensional. This is why multiple martial arts are required to cover these areas. Then, you must strip away any unecessary things about these fighting techniques to become more effective in combat, this is where Jeet Kune Do comes in.
Jeer kune do? I've not heard of it yet
Srry made typo
That last sentence really pops if you read it in Bruce's voice... lol

I would only engage in close hand to hand combat with a anyone if it was absolutely necessary. Why get close to anyone who wants to do you harm? If you have to fight someone hand to hand a high school wrestler with some punching power is going to end a lot of fights very quickly. When you are in a fight for your life there are no rules and no gloves. I've been in that kind of fight and it isn't like being in a ring. I've got the over sized knuckles, scars and bent fingers to prove it. They don't last long and they tend to be very brutal. I've also been to scenes where over-confident "practitioners" were pulverized by someone who didn't give a shit what they knew or what degree they were. Yes, I've seen the youtube video of a drunk MMA fighter beating up a drunk thug and the sober instructor knock out a drunk pimp for beating his ho. It is what it is.

Think this through. In a SHTF situation there likely isn't going to be any 1 on 1. If someone wants what you have and you don't give it up there will be a fight but they are gonna bring their friends and you are gonna have your friends. There won't be 1 on 1 fights for supremacy or leadership. Read up on Katrina and the violence in New Orleans during and after the hurricane and recovery. I was not down during the relief effort but some friends and officers from other departments did go to help. Although the .gov reports that the stories of violence were overblown, the people on the street will tell you differently.

If you've got to defend yourself you do it. You use every trick you've got and then some. There are no rules when fighting for your life or the life of your family and friends. Don't let hand to hand be your initial choice. Like it or not there is safety in numbers but only if the numbers show a united and organized front. Even a large organized group will pass up the losses it would incur by attacking a smaller but organized group. The weak and disorganized will be victimized as always. Weakness like most things begin in the head. It starts with a mindset. Instill some confidence in a person and you can make a conqueror.

Leaders are not born, they are developed. People recognize a leader and they will gravitate to them. A leader may not be the biggest, strongest, toughest or the best shot. They may not be your politicians, cops, generals, doctors or CEOs. BUT, people who don't have answers will look to someone who they think has them based on the situation they are in. If that choice doesn't have the answers they will look somewhere else. If a person does have the answers the people will support them. That person has to be able to keep that support by making good decisions. People need to have something to do or they become complacant. Yep, there may be a chance where as a leader you have to knock someone's head in to get their attention but is that going to help your cause or hurt it. Being able to recognize a problem-child before tey become an issue is part of being a leader too. A good leader will surround themself with people who have the answers for the things he doesn't.

Oh Yeah, Bruce Lee is dead. There are no more Bruce Lees. He was 1, no even 1 in a billion, he was 1 and there will be no others like him.

That was an amazing speech. You provided a very well defended opinion and I am in awe. Thank you for your answer!
It wasn't meant to put anyone in awe. It waws meant to make people think. Human nature doesn't change. Individuals change.

Oh hell, I was just talking about what you do when it is necessary. Besides, isn't that what martials arts is, a bunch of tricks to get an advantage over someone? I mean it can't be completely usless, otherwise the military and other government agencies wouldn't practice them. They do teach you and your buddies some sort of martial art, don't they Prime?

Some defensive strikes and kicks are taught. Pressure point control and other control techniques are taught. What someone knows doesn't make a fighter. Its how they use the knowledge or avoid using it. If you have to fight someone for your life there are no rules. If you don't have a weapon you pick up a board or a brick. Unless someone is absolutely insane or desperate they are going to avoid taking damage. If you are alone and unarmed you are prey to a group if they want what you've got. If someone goes looking for a fight they are likely to find it. They are also likely to find more then they bargained for.

Martial Arts may give you an edge when you need to get away. So can a silencer.

I don't think anyone was suggesting that martial arts be their primary defense, only to know what you're doing and be able to do it when the time is necessary. I mean its obvious that somebody will turn towards a gun in a deadly situation rather than their bare hands. Also, just because a singular individual will look like prey to a group of people, doesn't make them prey.

One person might be able to take on a couple others. But the majority of people are going to fall to multiple attackers. During the Rodney King riots, the store owners were being over run by looters. Once they took to their rooftops with rifles and guarded their doors with pistols the looters moved on. They were still a larger force but the store owners organized and armed themself.

Lest we forget. go to about 1:18. Hell watch the entire thing.

Try to stop this with BJJ.

This is how its done. Barely.
