OK, so the shit has hit the fan and zombies out number us 20 to 1, we meet survivors occasionally and need to trade goods with each other, What would the method of currency be? Prisons have Cigarettes, schools have Pokémon cards, what would survivors trade; ammo, food?

A short stroy I heard from a trader at a safe stop in the BLs (bad lands).

Step right up, step right up! What you need is what I got! I was trading chickens and ducks in a small shanty town down near Brockton when an enterprising young man just in from scavenging the mall on the outskirts of town came up to me. He said "Sir, I've got these bullets to trade. They're 9mm, half a box, 25 o' them. What will you trade me for them?" I looked at the scrawny boy knowing he had gone without a few meals and said "Son, I've got these two chickens here to trade. You kill em and clean em but they're your's for that 1/2 box of 9mm shells." "But I ain't got a knife to kill em and pluck em with!" the young man says. "Well let me throw this here knife in the deal. I can't see a young man go hungry!". Well we made the deal. The young man could now fill his belly. I sure did miss that knife though. Oh well, the young man was fed and he could use the knife as a tool or weapon.

Now that isn't the end of the story.

The very next day I was packin up and here comes that young man. I look to him and says "Well did ya fill yer belly son?" He says back to me, "I sure did. I'm looking for another meal." I asked him," Well do ya have something to trade?" He pulled out the knife I traded him the day before. He looked at that knife then up at me and says, "Nope mister, I think I'll just take my next meal from ya!" I tried to talk him outta what he was doing. Nothing could change his mind. He held that knife up to me and threatened to cut me ear to ear. At that point I feared for my very existence. I backed up, reached in my belt and pulled out the 9mm glock shooting that young man dead as a board. Now I kept that 9mm glock in my belt to ward off trouble that occasionally comes my way but it hadn't had bullets in it for 2 or 3 months. It hadn't had bullets in it until I traded those 2 chickens and a knife to that scrawny young man.

Well Hell, I got that knife back!
E-Mail that to Bruin to be part of the story...........
Done!
Nice story
haha, that was really creative, good job.
There would be a lot of bartering. Both in goods and in skills.
I think slick is right, it would be like "The Book of Eli" where certain things are worth more than others like water, bullets, canned food, guns, books (eventually people would see their significance), nails, screws, building materials, rope/chain, livestock, poultry, fish (in certain areas), knives.  Services would be a great asset, after the Zpoc everyone is gonna have time and trading essential goods for something you have tons of (time), would be very beneficial.  Off the wall type stuff and extravagant stuff would also have their place too.
Kill a zombie and a man will survive an attack, teach a man to kill and he will survive for ever

I agree with your logic on this.

My choices- ass, gas or, grass will getcha what you want!
I think it would be like ass, gas or meth really lol.
Research things that've been used for currency in past. Find a way to make a safe area where currency will be held. Once that is done, like any other government, find trusted armed men to guard the "Bank" I guess you could call it. =D

Personally, I'd go for something that is hard to make a fake of. Find a way to get silver and gold. Use it as a form of currency, but till there is enough to make it a full out currency.... make bartering the main currency. This is just my opinion though.
