Most Unorthodox Bug Out Bag Item?
Of course we all know to stock our Bug out Bags with things like ammo and a crowbar, but what about the unconventional things?
I believe that as much shooting and drama as there will be, eventually I'll have boring downtime and even a few everyday annoyances, so a few things I'm including in my bag are a small paperback copy of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, vacuum packed espresso and coffee as well as a small mocha pot, and an afro pick for my beard.
What are some unorthodox items you're including?

I'm packing a bible, pictures of my family, a jar of molasses, and a baggie of legos, cause that never gets old.

I'm taking a bottle of tobasco. I love spicy foods and different hot sauces. I think im gonna miss that alot when the SHTF. Plus its a great psycological boost. A depressing MRE can be made better with little flavor :)

Climbing gear, tampons (for wounds), condoms (for water), USB with all sorts of useful pdf files and medical information, if technology fails I have printed copies in a folder, my sanity kit (crosswords & cards), my feel good kit (travel size shampoo/conditioner/soap for morale purposes), ear plugs?, solar shower, foot powder/anti fungal cream, solar charger, mp3, family photos,...ok not very unorthodox but not many include them...
Tabasco sauce is good for wounds and pain relief btw..although many don't recommend to use them on open wounds...many others do..up to you

Instead of tabasco sauce, take powdered cayenne pepper.
Easy to carry, proven to help heart attack victims, increases your circulation, so it's a good tonic when mixed with water, natural anticeptic in/on wounds, can be used an anti-attack spray when mixed with water (just like Mace), etc etc etc

I'd take some books of Rüdiger Nehberg, "Sir Vival", with me. At least I'd not think about much other stuff. At least it would be "just" survival. You've to search for food, water, doing your 'home', protect others, protect your crops, maybe kill animals for having flesh, going to fish...
Just books. And - for sure - notebooks, papers and pencils. To write all down in a diary...

It's neat my friend Steve was in the military (RIP Steve) he killed himself a fear years back. Most of my sentimental items ARE weapons. And as for entertainment? Pack even more bullets. Have a headshot contest ;)

Wow Nice Book Selection.
I would pack real light since i'm weak and all so Id Imagine my back pack would be filled with subs, The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, My Lucky Necklace (If I'm Not Wearing It), A Playboy (A man gots to do what a man gots to do), and a toothbrush.

You should pack even lighter and leave Max Brookes behind too...I shall not fire the debate it has been killed, murdered, butchered in thousands of blogs as to why, unless of course you are keeping it for entertainment purposes then..there is nothing else to be said.

I agree with Leo, drop Brooks and pickup a copy of acouple good survival books. I have a list of acouple below that will add a little weight to your pack, but have the right information packed into them to make them worth their weight in gold.
Four books seem like a lot, and it does take up valuable room and weight. I recommend trying to commit one to memory. If not maybe give one to each person in your group and make them in charge of learning the book cover to cover while you have some down time at night. That way someone knows everything in the book, and there is a good chance that the knowledge can be passed back and forth better. Ive owned a copy of Plant Spirit Medicine for awhile and its got a ton of great information in it for medical plants. The gun owners guide will come in handy if you don't know jack shit about a gun. That maybe something you want to really try to learn before a SHTF situation so your not carrying the extra weight of a how to manual, but carrying some extra parts, ammo, and cleaning stuff for that gun. Trappers Bible is awesome book. I grew up trapping in WV with my grandpa as a kid, and it had tons of shit I had never seen before. Finally SAS survival is revered by many of my peers in the Army as the best survival manual ever made. It has tons of information in it. From shelters, fires, and trapping to enemy evasion, and some combat. It even comes in a very thick but smal field pocket version.
