Mutations, what affect will they cause on zombies?
Me and Keiran Turley were discussing the possible affects on the virus if it were affected by mutations. Possibley caused by all the Nuclear power stations over heating because no one is managing them.

Enhanced abilities
- The way the virus affects your brain could cause alternate pathways to be formed as the brain is very resiliant so better sense of their surounding, super hearing could all happen.
- Zeds who have saliva mixed with HCl from their stomachs like 'spitters' from L4D.
Division
- Zeds divide by Mitosis, so as well as repairing themselves from damage they can divide, like asexual reproduction, so 1 in to 2, 2 into 4, 4 into 8 etc. etc. Overwhelm not by murdering the current population just by sheer numbers.
- If their cells get cancer (uncontrolled mitosis) as the cancer cant kill them their cells will just grow in massive layers, meaning their skin is reinforced, so they will be resistant to attack. (possibly what happened to the ''tanks'' on L4D
- Mutations to DNA's Phenotypes will increases the fitness of the organism. RUNNERS!

I have also pondered this route of the strain. I have an ongoing question about the awareness factor of it all. Is it possible for the virus to evolve and mutate the host in such a way that a consciousness level would develop and the zeds would also develop learned abilities such as turning doorknobs and such things.
I'm not sure that this could happen and I don't have evidence that it ever would. but it would seem more conclusive with the right facts, I just don't know what those are...

im just sitting here thinking that, if a zombie mutated, why would it happen? Suppose there was a zombie apocalypse tomorrow (god forbid) and all the people with a certain gene survived, lets call it gene A, and didnt go zombie, would that mean that gene A is the cure?, and also if the virus attacks the human body and corupts the human dna making a regular average joe zombie, but if Person B has a certain gene in his body which is succeptable to corruption by the virus, and Person B gets bit and we know that when bit the virus atttacks every cell in the body, usually turning them into a zombie, but because they have the gene which can be corrupted, they would be affected DIFFERENTLY changing them into something new altogether, this may also permanently alter the structure of the virus itself creating new strains (eg. Campion 1, Campion 2, Campion 3 ) and new types of infected from each new strain, this is also scary because we have many thousands of different genes and any if not all of them could be succeptable to coruption by the virus which could result in many MANY different types of infected each with there own special skills or abilitys. feel free to correct me if you think this is wrong or complete rubbish :)

Imo Genetic or other sources could trigger mutations.
Lets use genes:They could become magnetic,, resistant to sharp weapon and or blunt ones,
And the one i thought about, grow out of proportions, Ie Giant feets/ arms, maybe even nails or teeth. Or the whole body grows , nothing worse than a Zombie, than a giant one.. Heh.
But for any mutation to take place it would take at least half to a year for such to happen
