Lost Zombies

pretty simple, and yet so complex....

you have the ability to carry ONE cutting impliment. hatchet, knife, axe, it doesn't matter. the point is that this is your one cutting tool that you are allowed for the apocalypse.

taking into consideration ALL aspects of use, durability, purpose, cost, availability, etc
what will be your own choice?

Kukri or Machette

K-bar it was good enough for iwo jima, it was good enough for Vietnam, its good enough for Afghanistan and its good enough for me

indeed. thats my 2nd choice really. but i like the kukri because it replaces a hatchet as well as 2 types of knife. (the edge of the inside curve is tempered differently, and is sharpened to a much finer edge, while the rest and main part of the blade is made for a more utilitarian blade.

I don't really need an actually hatchet I can make one out of a rock, stick, and some 550 cord or shoe lace which ever i have handy( and yes i have actually done it before i'm not just talking out of my ass)

i understand that. but i just don't see the need for the extra effort when a simple modification to my equipment saves the the trouble later of making one, with no negative side to the factor.

thats true, but the more you use your only knife as a hatchet the duller it gets

but since it's 5/8 of an inch thick, the chances of it wearing out out are slim. and as i stated before, it actually has 2 edges. you don't chop with the inside curve, so it's alot sharper, and tempered to be that way.

it's all personal preference really. the downfall of the kukri as i see it is the wieght.

ya i probably just like the k-bar more because its what i'm familiar with

My choice would be a full tang quality bowie with a prominant hand guard. Big strong blade can be used for chopping, cutting, slashing and digging. Oh, and it's simple. No user manual needed. Second would be a quality Kukri if available.

A Finnish Pukko.

this is a pretty unique answer, and i'm very curious as to your reasoning why you chose it. i had to google a finnish puukko to see what it was. but i don't know the specifics. could you please elaborate?

Because, to be fair, it's the only sheath knife i've ever used, but also because it's got a single bevel which makes it easy to sharpen, it's got a nice big handle which is easy to hold and doesn't cramp the hand, it's solid enough to handle being hammered on the back with a branch which makes it possible to chop kindling with it, and it's been used for centuries by the Sami people with very little change in the design and if it's good enough to use in subarctic conditions then it'll work fine in Scotland.

Also my father swears by his. He's had it since he was 10 and it has survived heavy use.
