Alrighty, so we all know that #1 on the list of things to be wary of in a zombie apocalypse is zombies. But what about other threats? As a result of desperation, there will most likely be scavengers and marauders attacking you for supplies. The hysteria will probably cause a few survivors to go completely insane produce a few blood cults (most likely killing in a futile attempt at gaining salvation). So, what do you do? And name any other threats likely to occur from a zombie apocalypse.

Aside from get shot by the government?

Desieses (is that spelt correctly?)

With rotting flesh all around you and the ability to clear them up removed because of the Zomborg threat.
it will give rise to things like the plauge once again.
What do you do?

You survive.

If there is anything left of the Government it will likely be ineffective in protecting itself let alone the survivors. Sure people will rush to the Military strongholds. Some will be there, some won't. Some will find what they aren't looking for. If you're going to set in and wait then you've got to fortify and defend. I live in a decent size stone home. I would fortify with "Sand" bags and wood. All first floor windows would be bricked up if possible. My place would end up looking like a .... Well it might begin to look a lot like this. Except with doors and slanted roof of course.

You deal with Groups and individuals just like you would zeds. Observe from a distance. Be stealthy and avoid altogether if that's your plan. Don't get involved unless you are willing to deal with the drama that other people bring with them.

Spend as little time as possible in urban areas. There will be zeds everywhere and even if the dead are truly dead you will have to deal with the disease brought on by thousands upon thousands of rotting decaying corpses.

Keep a map of your area. Mark areas and addresses where you know it is safe to go if your safe place is over-run. Have a bug out plan. You can stash caches of weapons and ammo in car trunks and mailboxes. The Zeds won't be using them and there likely won't be many folks around to take the stuff.

Become a pack rat. Items that may not seem useful now could save your life down the road. Even if you don't take the item with you, stash it and mark it on your map.

Conserve. Batteries, lamp oil, etc.. Gasoline and diesel are only good for up to 1 1/2 years after they are processed. After that they begin to gel and lose their combustibility. If you want electricity, Wind and solar will be your friend. Maybe even Hydro. There are plenty of books out there on these type of energies but once the Zpoc hits it's too late.
A+ response!
The map idea would play a very vital role in your survival, thanks for the tips! :)
Personally, shelter isn't too much of an issue for me. My comrades and I will take my high school. It's really secure because it's built like a prison (slit windows and all), it's got lots of stairs, it's got a ham radio, all of the science classrooms can be used as labs for making explosives, it's got a P.A. system (which comes in handy for mobilization), it has refrigerators, and the ROTC dept. has rifles. All in all, it's perfect.
umm i would think those rifles in ROTC have a nice slit in the breech, unusable
Awesome tips also your goberment trama.....Your bunker sound like a good idea but im staying in my friends penthouse...

Also i agree with being cold to other survivors, maybe they just bring more infected, more trouble , they can spend loits of useful ammo and supplies, and the map thing i saw just that in im leyend but now that you mentioned it it can be a lot useeful, urban areas will be death nests.
I live between 2 nuclear power plants, when SHTF and there is no one to tend to said power plants, or if some mishap took placing inside the plants to cause an accident...The results could be devastating.
I wish I still had it but I read a report that some actual expert wrote about if Z-day happened what wold happen to the power grids. Plants like the nuclear one would indeed be a problem. Most have safety shut down protocols if things get out of specific parameters but what if that accident you talked about did happen? Take a look at 3 mile island or Chernobyl for a rough idea.

For those wondering with out men operating the equipment we would lose power in about 12 hours. Now I have always thought that if a disaster did hit be it z-day or some other population devastating effect that the national guard and maybe local officials would send people to keep those going as long as possible. But how long would that be? And who would they send? How many would be barely enough?
Personal Knowledge, TMI was not a meltdown. The meltdown was averted. Just an FYI. The "TMI Meltdown" was a scare tactic for antinuke types.
Nah nuclear power plants automatically shut down when there's a problem.
Nuclear power put the food on our table my whole childhood. Both parents working full time nuclear power for decades. and if you believe that you are high and have fully swallowed the " everything is gonna be ok " pill. There are some serious issues that could arise. and as for that quinine pill they give to people who live near nuclear plants..in case something unfortunate should happen...well it aint gonna hurt ya, but you still might wanna get the hell outta dodge as fast as you can. and here is some more info.. there are quite a few power plants in america that are in seriously bad shape and more than a little scary.
I actually think that people will be the biggest threat. You will have lawless rogues and groups thatraid where ever they find stealing what they want. Otherwill attack anyone that come up on them to defend what they have agains those thieves. The Zeds will be predictable and a lot easier to deal with.
