supplys is important but you need a place to live to stay safe your no good in the open were do you plan to stay

i say get on a ship a big one and use a small boat to get to shore as far as i know zombies cant swim and the curent would take them out

if you are going to be on a boat get one big enough to store enough food ammo gas and weapons to last you for the rest of your life.

two words gentlemen, cloud computing. this dangerous new way of computer networking may bear unexpected fruit. in the webpage i linked tells you everything you need to know about the new cloud computing they are trying to feed down out throats. the cloud is just another name for server sharing. basically instead of needing to have your own server farm to run your company, you out source it to these massive data centers which are just giant server farms. and this is where the topic comes in. these data centers are giant reinforced concrete wear houses equipped with security features that makes fort knocks look like an unguarded piggy bank.
"Modern data centers are something of an engineering marvel. These large concrete structures are a warehouse for computer servers and network equipment. The first thing you will notice about a Data Center is that it will have no windows and no commercial signage on the outside of the building. If it does have a sign, it might be something fake to throw people off from what is really going on inside. Being low key, nondescript is the first rule in running a data center. Remote computer hackers are obviously a major problem for the people who run data centers but an armed physical assault must also be countered as well. The data and websites that these data centers hold are more valuable than all of the gold in Fort Knox. Name a company and they have data stored at these data centers. Microsoft, Exxon, Bank of America, JP Morgan, Google, Oracle, Dell, Ford, Duke Energy, etc.
The modern data centers are built with extreme redundancy in mind. Power from multiple power companies, battery backups,
commercial grade diesel generators, redundant fuel contracts from diverse fuel suppliers, connectivity from multiple high speed networks, redundant network switches and routers, redundant HVAC systems, anti-hacking and virus firewalls built into the network, security grade fencing around the complex, security lighting, cameras throughout the inside and outside of the building, armed guards 24 x 7, heavy steel doors with multiple levels of internal security, locked steel cages to house the computer servers. Data Center construction also takes into consideration weather, earthquake/hurricane prone areas, access to water, the flight path of planes, poverty/crime levels of the surrounding population, police & fire department capability, and much more."these centers would make one of the best zombie shelters ever. now while i would not suggest seeking shelter here during any normal disaster, but i think with zombies munching on the president the security personal, (who are most likely private security firms, with maybe some ties to government) basically commercial mercenary will have more important personal things to do then guard these places like there suppose to. remember these are just people. people with family's and other responsibility's. its always the human factor that gets you. now once everything goes to shit you have to find these places.

They usually are fenced in with fencing that says “This fence will be hard to climb and hard to cut but there is nothing of real value in this building”, you will not see razor wire or a type of fencing that draws attention to the building. Remember, low key is the first rule to running a data center. There will be a limited number of windows and they will almost always be in the front of the building. Cameras will be all over the building but difficult to see. Security will be layered, no roaming personnel outside but the parking lot will sometimes be secured. You have to enter the parking lot to really worry or alert security personnel to your presence. You can usually see two large diesel generators out back and they are usually fenced in with a second layer of fencing. You will not see any markings on these data centers because their location and identity are a bit of a secret."
one of the best things about these places is it has everything you will want and need in fortified compound but it wont look like it. chances are it will be mixed it with a hundred other buildings and while they look the same are much much weaker.i know if i can find one of these places by me that's where I'm going. it has fortification, power, space, weapons (most likely a security station armed to the teeth with everything from automatic weapons to riot gear), communication (the place is practical a communication hub of the world), and most importantly camouflage, its a nondescript building in nondescript area. as dale said in the walking dead. "find a place that's strong enough and everybody wants it, find a place nobody wants and its not strong enough"! well this place combines them both into the perfect camp.

I like the building, like the fact its going to be off the beaten path. There are acouple things about it I don't like though. Because its likely in a industrial park area chances of finding food around close maybe hard. Water supple for this type of building maybe compromised quickly. Im sure most will have water running through the floor to help cool the equipment. Ive seen this at a lot of industrial buildings in my area like Rockwell Collins and Harris. However, even if their running a backup well, it may be very hard to get water drawn in to use. This will be very important.
Then there is the armed guard part you spoke of. I don't expect them to be there guarding these places for cash once the grid goes down, however if their in the buildings working daily they know how secure they are, and may have had the same idea themselves. So you maybe dealing with a small group of heavily armed, scared people. Now I was in the military for a good while, and while I know from experience that taking a facility like this isn't impossible it is however very difficult.
Just thought I would give you something else to think about, its a great idea. Though, just come prepared if that's where your heading to.

If you have enough well trained people and are close enough, You can meet my group at Mesa Verde, research it. Only problem with it is there is no cold months to freeze Zed in the winter, but the plus side is that crop growing is ready and untouchable

I live in Michigan and just recently they shut down Standish Max Prison and i figure what better place to hold up then there wont have to clear out inmates since its been closed down for almost a year now and there are food stores in very close proximity. :) Either that or living in Michigan and have such huge lakes and living right on a river i could probably "commandeer" a boat and take out to the middle of lake huron and use a life raft to get back and forth for recon and supplies.

One thing I rarely hear being considered is cleanliness. One of my jobs is as a housekeeper for a hospital, and let me tell you, within a few months of any major disaster, BAD germs will be spreading like wildfire. The leading cause of death in hospitals is from infection, meaning that chiefly, two people are to blame if any, and those are doctors and housekeepers, and we clean every room at least three times a day with chemicals that are laughably powerful and hard to get otherwise. Now, of course the Zed virus would already be bad, but if you want to contain against things like TB and the latest thing Asia comes up with, you'd better keep your self, place, and gear very clean, and be able to do it quickly.

If you want disease and sickness, go to the hospital. As i've said in so many other threads over the last few years, wherever people gather there will be sickness and infection. Stay away from large groups.

Yeah, hospitals are horribly dirty places. In the event of any contagion, I'd try to hole up in a place that could be kept clean easily. One scary thing I've learned is that even chemicals like Virex 256 can take ten minutes to destroy some bacteria, so if germs are running rampant, your life might depend on things like how porous the materials around you are. Hell, I don't go a week without fully disinfecting my cell phone.
