Hey guys. I'm planning a Zombie Walk in my town and I was wondering if anyone had any tips if you've ever been a part of one or organized one. My plan is to do it on or near Halloween, have anyone who wants to participate donate 5 dollars and every single buck will go to Alzheimer's research. (My fiance's grandmother died from the disease so it's a personal thing) But I was wondering, do I need some sort of permit (like a parade or something) from my capitol, since I live in the capitol, or not. Or if there's a good way to promote it. Any tips from my fellow zombie nuts would be appreciated.
Yep, you need to go to your Social Planning Office (Don't know what it's called over there) and get a permit for a parade. Also if your going anywhere near shops and stuff you should ask their permission or at least warn them (I had angry store owners complaining about the noise). Make sure you tell your local police that your doing it, as they might want to monitor it. Make sure to have a legal document of some kind saying where the money will be going, as they might not trust you and you could face legal action if the total doesn't add up. Oh and make sure that if things start to get out of control you call it off, there was one last year that ended up with people running through the streets because they thought it was a disease.
In 2009 World Zombie Day is October 11. If you want to start your own walk, I highly recommend contacting the world-wide organizers in Monroeville, PA. Why reinvent the wheel, when this has been done dozens of times before. If you work with them, you will be added to the official city list and your walkers will count towards setting a Guiness Book Record. Good Luck.
